Last year the MM Tribute (that I did) slept at Imola, so there wasn't a passing-by point: we arrived around 2:00am and were at the Imola track for the trial at 7:00am. The MM itself overnighted further away and so I'm not sure how they drove through the town. They must have entered Imola between 8:00 and 10:00am, I think it will be similar this year. It might be a good idea to start at the Imola track to see the check point and the cars there, and then move into (or out of) town to see the cars coming through somewhere else. But I must say I like pueche's idea of finding the route somewhere between towns, unfolding the chairs, and uncorking something nice.

Best days still coming, the ones that I'm participating. All kidding aside, I do see your point and the commercial aspect of the MM is getting to the surface more and more. I hope the spirit of the MM will still shine through but of course some of it will invariably be lost. Such is the way of "progress".

Yessssssssssss....... Off the waiting list! We are IN!!!!!!!!!!

Waiting list accepted cars join the end of the queue, so our race number is 379. I know, it sucks, but any number is better than no number at all.

And now the car has to be ready in less than a week... See you all in Brescia! Forza Mille Miglia!

By the way, the organization has behaved impeccably (fourth attendance), once again giving the lie to the usual and tiresome national stereotypes.

Jaime, if 150 is a nightmare, how would you qualify 379?:)

My theory is that our number is so bad that it might be good. I expect to see you waiting for me at the finish line on saturday, OK?

For those of us who are newcomers to trhis event, could somebody give us some kind of brief recap of events and scheduling since I don't understand why your departure number makes a difference, or why everybody seemes to be arricving at 2 am at final checkpoints etc. And what are the hotel and dining facilities like? And how difficult is the course mmap to figure out? Is there a way to pracice? Help!

It will all sort itself out Ross, don't stress about it.

First thing is to arrive at your time slot at the Fiera in Brescia, right next to the Brescia Sud turn-off. After the toll booth keep to the far right, take the roundabout straight and then it is I think the second roundabout to your right. You can see the Fiera on your right as soon as you come to that first roundabout.

You will be directed to drive inside of the hall. Park the car and have a look around chat with the fellow owners. At one end of the hall are the registration facilities. You can get your temporary racing license there, if you need one, and you need to bring your proof of insurance. I was not asked for a doctor's certificate, but it might be a good thing to bring one anyway.

If you have all that paperwork, go and register your car. You should get your goodie bag there - last time there was confusion and we didn't know about it. Ask for it, it contains a Ferrari watch and all sorts of stuff. Once your car is registered, go back to your car and flag one of the officials to check your chassisnumber. That is the whole scrutineering process!!

You will receive instructions on what to do on Thursday afternoon. You will drive into town under police escort (in lines of about 30 Ferraris at a time), and then find a place to park in center of town. This was a bit chaotic last year as my car was viewed as a real MM entrant and misdirected so I lost the rest of the guys. But if you stick with the modern Ferraris it's easy, you just park somewhere in one of the shopping streets. In effect it is a bit of a impromptu car show for the people in Brescia.

You then walk to (late) lunch, after which you will attend a briefing where you get your roadbook etc.. Then you will all go to your cars and drive to the main drag where you will wait until the start. And then, you follow the roadbook! It is very easy; very hard to take a wrong turn. One thing I didn't realise on the first evening that this is not a regulatory rally like we would interpret it in, say, the UK. The object of the game is to drive as quickly as possible to the food point, have a nice long brunch/lunch/dinner and then drive over the finish line of the stage exactly when you should. The quicker you drive, the longer the lunch.... Regulatory rally Italian style!

Hotels varied last year. One in Imola was dismal, the one in Rome was great. Meals were the same, mostly the quality disappointed me. The gala dinner was nice to do once, won't be doing it this year.

Jeez, I'm making it way too easy for you! Now all the sense of adventure is lost! :)

Relax, it will all become clear very quickly.

Hotel and dining facilities vary a lot. Don't expect to much, but the food is usually OK.

    Numbers make ALL the difference.

Low numbers: Very early to rise, full attention of the public, the organization, and the carabinieri, no medieval city traffic jams, no standing in line for meals, no waiting at checkpoints, very early arrivals, less night driving.

High numbers: Late to rise, public beginning to get tired of seeing more than 370 cars pass by, organization and carabinieri exhausted, epic jams at chokepoints, long lines for food, short tempers at checkpoints, very late arrivals, much more night driving.

The course is ridiculously easy to map out: It is very well indicated, and you can just follow the crowds...

    Ahhhh....

I am afraid my advice does not apply to the Ferrari Tribute, of which I know very little, other than the fact that it's open to modern Ferraris, and that they have been known to accept replicas. I have no idea what the departure times are for the Tribute, or how the numbers work.

nope julio, i am not yet in your league unfortunately ;) but someday !
i am in the tribute part to check things out in anticipation of finally getting a car to qualify for the recreation.

here is another question for you all....how fast do they allow you to go ?? i know they are saying its a regularity event, and the cops accompany everybody and you shouldnt contravene italian traffic laws yadda yadda, but do they let you push the loud pedal a bit??

Might be a bit of a silly question but perhaps one of you can tell me the answer

As I'm getting my car shipped directly to the start I'm going to rent a car at Milan airport to get there

Is there someone at the start where I can leave my car until Sunday or will I need to leave it at the hotel and get a taxi over?
