True. if it were a gov't construction site, there'd be at least 4 other people watching that guy work
The 'Rah-Rah' crowd is tired of the 'Chicken-Little' crowd on this thread and is primarily following the "Freinds of" facebook site. The 'Rah-Rah' crowd tells the 'Chicken-Little' crowd, have fun playing with yourselves.
I'm not gloating because I want this project to happen, but I think the comparison of these two pictures tells it all: Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Take a look at post 1235 and then please explain how fun Facebook really is. You post is pathetic. People are asking for progress. You supplied what in relation to that? A nice insult. Please don't go away mad and play with yourself, just go away.
The thing that I can't get my head around in this case is the same thing that happened with USF1: Nobody speaks up. Yes, here we are discussing this case, which by now looks like they're really in deep trouble (financially, permit wise, time wise) given a deadline of December (assuming it is played by the book). Yet nobody officially says a word: No word from the FIA, not from Bernie, not even the journos. Are we the only ones with eyes or is everybody else just afraid of a suit from Tavo & Co? It reminds me of the situation with USF1 back in August (when they too were about 6 months from their deadline). Nobody said a thing. Heck, the media was still glorifying them (Speed TV, Road&Track). The only FIA official even rubber stamped the place. While on here those with a bit of experience (JKnight, SRTMike and others) already pointed out that this was nothing but a scam. Or at the very least a house of cards. So why are we the only ones talking about USGP? Why isn't there some nosy journalist digging up the dirt (pun intended) on this one? It's not like construction time durations are a secret.
Their 'deadline' as far as I know is June 12th. Not December. http://www.ushca-austin.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderfiles/austin_commercial_bp14.pdf start at page 92.....
That's the deadline given to them by Bernie. IIRC the FIA's deadline is 6 months before the first GP so the tarmac has enough time to settle etc. That requirement was waved in Korea, but that doesn't mean it is no longer existing. At the least I'd expect the FIA to remind Tavo & Co. that they should be targetting a December completion date. Of 2011.
I understand that. Look at that PDF link I posted. It states June 12th. Which means, they are operating under the assumption that Bernie is going to wave the deadline. Or he already has, and doesn't want to publicy say it.
Page 92 starts the construction schedule............the caveat being, this document is dated second week in February.
I found the project plan, thanks. Quite interesting details: Completion dates from the plan: Grandstand June 15 Pit Building June 29 Plaza tower June 30 Bernie has no say in this. The 6 months before opening day requirement comes from the FIA. That's Todt. Seriously, none of this makes any sense to me. Unless this plan is just a mock-up and they're really thinking 2012 instead. But if they don't, they should talk to the Donington folks and see how well that went.
With dear Bernard "All is negotiable" for a price. This is what happens when an exception is made. It becomes standard practice.
I asked. it was taken on the side facing 812. I'd correlate it to something on the plans, but i was too lazy too.
Is there anyone who actually still thinks this project is legitimate, after looking at the schedule on that PDF file? According to their own schedule, the following should be in progress thus far: -Track construction -Pit/paddock construction -Media center construction -Teams building -Main grandstands -The entry tunnel should be started -Excavation should be largely complete -Pads for many of the buildings should be in progress and nearing completion -Installation of electric/water/sewer for many of the buildings should be in-progress -Construction of roadways, paths and walls should be mostly complete -and lots more They are supposed to be done 90 days before the race date (IIRC) for a final inspection. Their schedule has construction going right up until the end of June 2012. So that would mean they would have to be slated for a race towards the very end of the 2012 schedule, OR, Bernie/FIA has already foregone the track inspection. And it appears from looking at the schedule, that they are at *least* a 3 months behind, if not more. Why? They don't have the money in place. If they did, the things on the schedule would be happening.
