Lorenzo Bandini, really, was one of the few Ferrari drivers,they were really "Ferrarista di cuore".

Yes, I agree, really, Nathan. And Michele Alboreto too. But, you remember what happened in Imola 82 between Gilles and Pironi .

This is probably the wrong thread for this discussion, but what's the difference between 'willing to die for Ferrari' and those that actually died in a Ferrari. e.g Collins, Musso, Castelloti, de Portago, Von Trips etc?

I know. I mean, Bandini, was a "home" driver. All pilots race to himself. Bandini, race by and for Ferrari. he always wanted to race for Ferrari. Scuderia Ferrari came first for him.

There were great. drivers that right away come to mind who were NOT willing to die for Ferrari. Stirling Moss who for strictly personal reasons kept Ferrari at arms length and only drove Ferraris if they were entered privately.Juan Fangio who only drove as a works driver one year,1957,because he never like E F and he needed the money because all his savings in Argentine banks were frozen after the overthrow of the Peron dynasty. Evently he was able to recover his funds as he was a great hero in Argentina and he was able to establish that he was not an intergral part of the Peron dictatorship.Finall there was Phil Hill who was enough of his own man not to be intimidated by Ferrari who constantly lectured his drivers,particularly the Italians, they had to go faster. Phil just continued to win races and come back year after year. Finally with the Chiti revolution he had had enough and left.There were others but these three did it all Sports and F1 racing. just one man's opinion tongascrew

 

Not only that - Fangio never drove a Ferrari in his private race entries. He prefered the Maserati 300S - and he knew why....

In the interests of accuracy; he was a works Ferrari driver in 1956 not 1957. He won the World Championship in the Lancia Ferrari.

Maybe it's the language barrier which is perfectly understandable, but to imply that Bandini or any other Ferrari driver was willing to die for Ferrari is an abusrd notion. Sorry to go OT. To make up for it I'll add a photo:
