    Great vid....

    But hardly the life.

I think it's great these guys preflight e-v-e-r-y flight. Same plane - Same list.....but they do it every time.

Anyone know how many flights a senior capt makes in a month these days? I know the game has changed a lot over the years. I used to know Captains that flew maybe seven days a month.

It depends on whether they are international or not. Senior Captains (domestic) at a major get roughly 17-20 days off per month, same with FO's. International a few more maybe.

Sure Jerry, but I thought I was clear.

"I used to know Captains that flew maybe seven days a month."

Then you posted: "Senior Captains (domestic) at a major get roughly 17-20 days off per month, same with FO's. International a few more maybe. "

If Captains (and FO's) are getting say 20+ days a month off then they can only be working max 10 days. That's about what I said I recall before the industry took a tumble. Even some of the guys I knew had pagers to be on call, but they never expected to get the call. So, they really could have actually had less than a week of flying.

Even back in the mid 90's or so when that was going on, it was not the norm; however, there are still people who at some airlines choose to bid reserve and due to their reserve rules (being able to refuse a trip etc..) hardly ever fly at all.

I enjoyed the video. Purely military here and a right seater, but looks pretty representative of what I would have expected of an international captain.

Very young daughter, though, the other part of that life appears to be older men married to younger women they met in the business.

Hard way to make a living, with some perks paid for the hard way.

My uncle was a right-seater on an international 747. Ex-USAF pilot and Vietnam vet. Flew for nearly 30 years. Due to all the bankruptcies along the way, the monetary rewards didn't materialize as was hoped for. He married later in life and never had children. It's a grind. But, tell me a job with responsibility that isn't?

Lawyers have high alcoholism rates. Dentists suicide. I am a recovering IBanker. And, when people's lives and safety are at risk, I'd hope the job is taken even more seriously.

    Thank you flight crews.

And how many divorces later? Doctors, surgeons, airline pilots and other high profile individuals are consistently targeted by the financial industry. That which drives them forward can often drive them to financial destruction.

    I opened the wrong thread.

I thought the discussion, would be about hot stewardesses :D ?

It was always a thrill, to fly Southwest, when it was a small airline.

An old international airline pilot, told me a story about hot stewardesses, that used to tease the scope-dopes on the ground, who worked the DEW Line. The call would ask for Charlie, Uniform, ... ... :D. Up north, these operators had not seen a woman, in quite a while.
