    Hey,

    From Autosport:

    http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/91347

WTF?!.... I remember well the craziness of the dedicated test team, and agree we don't want to go back to that. But, surely, why can't they test on (most) Thursdays or Mondays before or after? - I guess Monday would be best as then it becomes a test rather than extended practice for the upcoming GP, but that's a *long* way from a dedicated test team..... And they're already "on-site" so no additional travel etc etc......

    I just don't get it! :(

    Cheers,
    Ian

I just perceive it as every team who doesn't have their own Fiorano doesn't want testing.

I agree with Horner, cause it also stops Ferrari, Mclaren, Red Bull and Mercedes with their big budgets running away from the rest of the field. Make the first Friday practice 2 and a half hours long and the second 2 hours long, give the teams say 3 more sets of tyres of each compound and let them try young drivers at their will or a test session.

    I get it perfectly...

If I were the principal of the defending world champion team, currently leading this year's championship race, I wouldn't want to change anything either!

Hopefully they'll re-introduce some form of testing though. It just makes sense, especially considering the new teams, which can only progress so far on simulators alone.

Of course Horner doesn't want testing! Red Bull currently have the fastest car and they will do everything in their power to keep it that way! Come on people. His answers are what I call, "a fleece job".

i understand that logic but big budgets don't go hand in hand with competitiveness. look at toyota and BMW. HUGE budgets and they never made much headway.

On the other hand Renault with a much smaller budget won two championships.

i wish they'd bring testing back.

True enough, I think it depends on the people you have to determine what you can actually do with that budget. Also I never really go the feeling Toyota and BMW were fulling into making a name for themselves in F1 until the rules changed in 2009 for Toyota especially.

They need to bring testing back not for the teams or current drivers but up and coming drivers, they get almost no practice with F1 machinery and then depending on what car they are put into their rookie year it can be all over for their career since they are learning everything as they go along.

I believe this is what Todt wants, and I would imagine most F1 folk will agree on that.

Test days should be done the day after a GP as the equipment is already there; the teams that podiumed that weekend are prohibited from testing.

RBs have been now twice in a row the top of the field. The other teams are currently busy copying their car, which after a few races they will achieve to some degree.

If test days are introduced, that timespan of copying the RB car gets shorter. So it is only normal that Horner is against test days.

They might as well ask turkeys whether they like Thanksgiving.
