And he is my favorite driver. He qualifies well, and has started well, but over the long course of a race he fades back into the field. Same over several seasons. Kind of like Truli. He lacks solid "racecraft" IMO. Hard to describe. Finish it Nico.
It's the car not him IMO. He drives the wheels off the car but they haven't got the MB figured out just yet. He's 27 y/o so he needs to get into a good car soon....
Wish he had done better against MacWebba when they were at Sir Frank's. Other than that, he's a dreamboat . 1/2 of a notch down from Seavette, McHam and Fred. 1/4 notch off Kubica and maybe Kamui. Nico in red would be nice but not right now, I'd rather see KK in Phil's car.
I followed his carreer because of his Finnish heritage (were both half but he claims to be German, hey; I'm America so thats a wash), his tough WDC old man, and his stellar storm up through F2 proving his worth as a driver. Then he went to Williams off the bat. "My" team. Underdog on an underdog team. Perfect fit for me. Just great. There are also rumors that he, Kovi, and some other F1 drivers are wearing "man makeup". Somehow the plot has been lost. I long for the good old days with Nigel pushing his car till he passes out.
i think it's more the car. unlike the ferrari which races well but qualifies poorly, the mercedes qualifies well but can't run the race at the same level. i wish nico would go to ferrari.
I don't think he's pooping out at the end of the race. . . seems to me he's employing good pit strategy, etc to get to/stay at the front of the pack early on, which catches up with him later in the race. Even after last week's qualifying I don't think MB has the same pace of Red Bull or even McLaren, so his keeping up with them is artificial.
Ditto for me. To say that MS is slow/washed up etc etc etc is really an insult to Nico. MS is still doing great IMO....and yet, Nico is doing even better! Hard to see any downside in that for Nico.
