I never mentioned this and thought it would be an interesting thread. Last year while at a car show there were a couple of Ferraris. One of which was a Testarossa. I chatted with the owner before he left and when he cranked it up I was astonished. The car made virtually no noise. Every Ferrari I've ever heard has been extremely loud with a few exceptions, but even they weren't this quiet. Are there other models like this or could this have been an exhaust modification? Just curious.

Either it was not real or you need to get your hearing checked.

It was real; I'll have to try and find the picture I have with it. I was just really surprised because I've never heard a V12 sound that quiet before.

Edit: Flat 12 or whatever it is you guys are calling it these days.:D

That is a common complaint of the stock Ansa system- My buddy had the cleanest TR on the planet but it was fairly quiet next to my 355- A TR with a Tubi or Capristo system is quite loud and sounds incredible.

That could have been what it was. The exhaust, from what I could tell, was stock. It just had a really low sound. He didn't rev it either, and when he left he didn't leave 1st gear and was almost at idle. He barely gave it any gas.

The Testarossa engine is a V12 that happens to have a 180 degree bank angle.

He didn't; that's probably why it sounded so quiet. I wish he would have though!:)

For whatever reason, the factory exhaust on the TR, 550, and 456 are all rather quiet and all greatly benefit from a tubi or the like.

Kevin- Affirmative on the early 65 deg V12s being relatively quiet. Best way to cure that is to remove the center muffler/resonator and replace with straight pipes. Ferrari did that in Fall 2003 on the 575M. The exhaust bypass valves on some of the models tend to make them quieter, too.

Did not realize stock TRs were that quiet.

I owned an 86 single mirror TR. The very first one delivered to Canada. When I had my foot planted and my gauges were beginning to redline . I truly believed I was as close to heaven as I needed to get. I've been hooked on 12 cylinder Ferraris ever since.

I had a 512TR with a Capristo and it was still very quiet.
