Hi, I am currently thinking about trading my Gallardo in for a F430 Spyder. This is my second Gallardo and it's been a wonderful car. Although not my daily driver, I still drive 10k+ a year on my exotics. The F430 will be my first Ferrari and I was wondering if it will be as reliable as my Lamborghini as been? I am thinking about a 05 or 06. I know 05 was the first year of the F430. Do you think I should go with a more recent year? Is there any problems with the 05's? I know with Lamborghini, going from 05 to 06 was a huge jump. I would also like to know what the annual services are and how much they cost. Also how reliable is the F1 system and how much would be a clutch replacement from the dealer? Thanks
I asked a similar question to manager at the local ferrari dealer the other day. Keep in mind the dealer is owned by an autogroup that also sells Lamborghini's. He said you are looking at about $2,000 a year on an F430 if you drive it a lot. I told him i may drive it 2,000 miles a year. He said i'd probably get away with about $600 every year and then every other year I may incur a bigger cost for additional service. He said the F430 was a lot easier to maintain than the Gallardo, as that is the other car I am considering at this point. Take it for what it's worth, keeping in mind that it was an Ferrari dealer, but they have always been straight forward and offered to get me set up with the Lamborghini dealer if i wanted.
I think the short and sweet answer is: If you can afford to maintain and drive the Gallardo, you can afford to maintain and drive the F430. There's quite a few people on this forum who have bought both in the past and I don't recall anyone saying there was any big difference.
I just did it few weeks ago, from G coupe to 430 coupe, and I'm loving it! Clutch for 430 is less money than the G. 430 is so much more fun to drive and quicker take offs. No jerk, no clunky shifts, nice really sporty steering feel, better turning radius. I love the manettino and start buttons.
F430 is cheaper to run, easier on rear tires too, I have a late '06 and still have the original clutch at 20k miles. F430 is more fun to drive, it might turn a little bit less attention and many times that a plus.
I always find it interesting to see how people feel when they make the switch from lambo to ferrari(or vice versa). :: tracking this thread::
You should take a look in the Lambo thread down below. Some have gone from Ferrari to Lambo. What's great is that everyone has a different idea about what they like in a car.
Just sold an 07 Gallardo Spyder and pick up my 07 F430 Coupe next week.. I will let you know how I get on! I generally find the F430 a MUCH more comfortable car inside, and a lot smoother gear change etc. Maintenance cost was not high up on my list of things, but the F430 does seem like a cheaper car to maintain - especially clutch wise! Also little things like sports exhausts... a 4-5 hour job on Gallardo with bumper off etc, a 40 minute job on F430. Spec of my 2007 F430 has every single box ticked, including custom stitching on sports seats and extra carbon fibre everywhere inside - interior feels a lot more special than my G's bicolour and that felt special when I first got it!
well you can get a Ferrari 1 year engine and transmission warranty on preowned AFAIK there is no such thing for used Lamborghinis out of warranty
I am in the Uk and this is exactly what made me swap. My Gallardo Spyder went out of warranty and Lambo cannot sell an extended one in the UK. The approved Ferrari in the UK comes with 2 year manufacturer warranty included!
I had a 05 Gallardo 6sp coupe, then 08 Egear Spider. Both very nice rides but nothing like my 07 6sp 430 spider. The Ferrari is so much more fun to drive. It makes me smile every time I push that big red start button. The rear wheels will spin, the rear end will break loose....just so much fun. Get a 430 with a 6sp manuel!
Thanks for all the replies guys! Looks like I will be looking for a Red/Black 430 Spyder F1. Also is there any changes in the years? 05 and above?? Thanks
The changes are listed frequently here but seem to amount to carbon brakes standard after about 2007 Another aspect is the much larger trunk on the 430
I bought mine for its interior... so much carbon and these seats are to die for.. Pic it up friday. More of an event than my G Spyder. Scud wheels going on the same day I collect, and geo setup lowering slightly, then exterior carbon bits
Wow your car looks amazing! That is my favorite interior! I love the Scud, but I am not a big fan of the barebones interior. If they put that interior on the Scud, that would be my car!
It looks like the mounted the steering wheel on the wrong side. Is that covered under warranty? Seriously though, love those seats!!
