I've had him a few times on ignore,if this is the way it is,fair enough,I guess I will need to do my own filter and ignore and thread that has his name as the last poster. Till he stops the spamming,
good point, I only have one person on ignore but that is in the F1 section Pap's inane posts are so low on my radar in the list of annoying things as to not register ... that doesn't mean they aren't irritating, just that there are more significant things in life to worry about If he really upset me I'd call him or DOS attack his PC
Rob, we are not criticising Pap's performance as a mod, it is his posting behaviour. I've found his spam annoying from the outset, final straw was his "copy_and_paste_with_smileys" post in poor Neville King's RIP thread. I went to put him on ignore and discovered I couldn't. Then discussing it offline with other contributors, I discovered that plenty of people thought the same. Why is the Aussie section hostage to the ambition of one person? btw Pap has his own thread "Weekend at Paps", which he can fill with spam to his heart's content. The problem is that talking to himself quickly loses its appeal, so he infiltrates every other thread. Many days I log on here and EVERY active thread has Pap's tag as the last poster and not one of those posts is worth reading. Can he show restraint? On past performance, I doubt it. He's already deflecting the blame to other users. Self awareness is not an obvious character attribute of his. Ian
It sounds like you have a REAL problem with me IanB. And if you woke up to yourself every once in a while, you would realise I didnt "copy_and_paste_with_smileys" in Nev's thread. Maybe I should have worded it A LOT differently to avoid confusion.
Im sorry I cant make that happen at this point in time. But maybe Rob Lay can work out the system and make it happen soon. Amongst all the other crap, yep.
So you admit you are a spammer and ain't going to stop and yet you are a mod. What is stopping you from resigning as a mod? What do you get out of it?
I have a real problem with you being a mod, for the reasons already stated. I also don't get the connection between a bloated post count and the authority to judge others. I would have thought the two are mutually exclusive.
the incongruity of Pap being a mod amuses me he is one of the top swearers on the forum (I totally understand it, Mt Isa is like that ) he's a confessed spammer (against the TOU) yet he has the perfect temperament for being a mod, doesn't fire up easily, tries to be nice to people even when being atatcked, always ready to help people The ideal solution is for him to be a mod in any other section bar the Aussie section where those who want to can put him on ignore but I think the software is not flexible enough for that solution, they need a new version of vB for that to work
There are several traits I look for in a mod, one is activity level and the other is being level headed, Pap excels in both areas. I have had some mods that met the above qualifications, but turned sour in the end. By meeting Pap in person and spending some days with him I confirmed he isn't just a good guy on the internet, but a really good guy in person too. That was an extra level of confidence for making Pap a mod. A few of you have made your opinions clear you dont like some of Paps posts. I have already offered up one solution to have a Off Topic sub-forum under Australia. If the feedback truly is warranted then I think Pap will take it, probably doesnt make it easy at this point the method in which you are giving the feedback though. I just think this is some unnecessary drama that you are trying to relate to Pap being a mod. If much of this was warranted then most of everyone would have ignored Pap in the previous 5 years and 60,000 posts. I don't believe there was anyone that had Pap on ignore permanently, so to me that makes the argument somewhat hollow now that he is a mod.
You probably havent noticed, but since being a mod I dont post as much as I used to as being a mod consumes a little bit of time. Especially in the other sections. And I enjoy moderating, hence why I would like to keep doing it. And as I stated when Speedy posted last months post count, I was actually suprised at my post count, I seriously didnt think I made that many posts last month. You had a problem with me years ago mate, you admitted it before to Rob and I could tell anyways. I can read between the lines. It's just a shame it had to come to this, we could have been good mates that looked forward to catching up with each other like I do when I visit my other Ferrari Chat friends in the big smoke. Actually, I dont swear as much on the forum as I used to JM. Im a good boy these days. Spammer, bah. We're ALL guilty of doing that. Obviously some more than others!! I thought we had a win-win yesterday till I realised it cannot be done till I resign as mod. And that is not going to happen anytime soon as I enjoying myself at the moment and I like to think I am doing a good job, regardless of what others think. Hopefully Rob can sort something out with the software to ease the 'burden' I have on everyone in this section.

Rob, how about you remove Pap's mod status for say 48 hours, then whoever wants to put him on ignore can and then just reinstate him?
All our post counts are going to be above average this month with all this to-and-fro bickering. I've never seen IanB post so much before in my life. Maybe I should tell Rob to reset my post count back to zero when I reach 100K posts. Just like the old Holden speedos used to roll back over to zero.
