What size socket is needed for the front crank bolt? Easy one for Brett!

Really? Mine is 36mm, had to buy the socket because my set only did go to 32mm. Must admit I do have a carbed engine, no injection

they all have 36mm head bolts. You may have to machine the socket to fit inside the harmonic balancer

Thanks all. I could not imagine Brett not getting it right, HAPPY BIRTHDAY.

Now off to the tool shop and I understand that the OD may be a bit large to fit in the balancer/pulley.

thanks Ken...as Rock said, you will have to grind it to fit...at which time you will likely remove the marks indentifying as a 36mm socket... : )

    thanks Rock...you 'da man !

    well, i wasn't pouring them...but i suppose that's a possibility...thanks Jan.

    thanks Peter...that's good advice.

Thanks for tip about the VW socket on ebay. I bought it for less than $15 with shipping. It fits without modification and is quite good quality.
