Crankshaft front bolt size

What size socket is needed for the front crank bolt? Easy one for Brett!

Really? Mine is 36mm, had to buy the socket because my set only did go to 32mm. Must admit I do have a carbed engine, no injection

 

they all have 36mm head bolts. You may have to machine the socket to fit inside the harmonic balancer

Now off to the tool shop and I understand that the OD may be a bit large to fit in the balancer/pulley.

thanks Ken...as Rock said, you will have to grind it to fit...at which time you will likely remove the marks indentifying as a 36mm socket... : )

A cheap, 6-point socket may fit. I bought one advertised for VW dune buggies, don't get one that looks rugged or 12 point or it won't fit...Lee

Thanks for tip about the VW socket on ebay. I bought it for less than $15 with shipping. It fits without modification and is quite good quality.
