Black Soot from Tail Pipe dripping on paint

Does anyone get black soot dripping from tail pipe onto paint on a F430. Is there a remedy?

 

Yes, all of them. New tips. Haven't changed mine yet, but planning on it.

 

I get it. It's easy to clean off so I don't worry much about it. It think it's pretty common with the F430. It's one of it's "quirks".

No need for alarm. It's normal.

 

It annoyed me so I put a strip of paint protection film on each sides. At least it's not getting on the paint now.

 

Happens on the 360 as well...

 

Yep, I have a rag I used to wipe them out after start up, not a big deal.

Well thats just not fair; you have a black car! Thats like saying you cant see ketchup on my Red F430.

Seriously though, I dont understand how the Ricambi tips would prevent the carbon drips because they are just slide on metal covers. I do agree if you extend the tips an inch or so you would drip on the ground. So what am I missing on the Ricambi tips?

I never had any black soot in and around the exhaust pipes, just clean water vapor dripping off at cold start. I use the Hill Engineering chrome sleeves but don't remember having black soot even before I installed them some time ago.

 

Are there any remedies to prevent to soot? Does anyone make slightly longer tips?

 

Happens to almost everyone. As already mentioned, just just keep wiping them off. make sure there is a good coat of wax on the painted part. If its stubborn or already stuck on the paint, use a polish and then wax.

The sleeves make no difference.

 

Fabspeed advertises their model as being longer specifically to avoid this problem, but at $800 for the set I can wipe the paint down after driving!

Even with my Tubi which appears to have slightly longer tips, I still get it just dripping on the paint....fact of ownership.

I finally noticed that black soot depends on the exhaust valves (opened or closed). As I most of the time have them open with the remote control unit, I don't have the black soot.

It makes sense, the soot comes from the muffler. With the exhaust valves open, most of the exhaust gases take a direct route bypassing the muffler.

 

It also happens on my 550 Barchetta and my 575M.
I have the Tubis with the X-Pipe on the Barchetta & Tubis on the 575M and still get some soot on the paint as well.
I would think that this exhaust residue is normal on all of our cars?

 

No black soot on my capristos as well. Running test pipes too and no issues with black soot except for what Stef mentioned, water vapor.
