31-May-12 is the last date I see, (glancing thru it) on the existing schedule..... "Concession/Restroom Finishes"
There are't "so many detractors intent on seeing it fail" here. There are those with legitimate doubts and open minds but I'm hard put to think of anyone who would not like to see aUSGP. Demonizing the doubters doesn't strengthen your position.
You have an understanding of the data? Usually the default dates listed are considered "Early start/Early finish" You have to expand the screen or print view to see links to other critical path events as well as the "allowable float" before a delay impacts the Critical Path of progress. I was just wondering if you knew that, about Primavera or Microsoft Project. (I don't know which software they are using)
Tavio is gonna be looking for you....or whoever posted it to that website (FTP is a very dangerous thing, IMO). Too late though, the horse is out of the barn, at this point.....
That's actually a great picture, notice how they go from the lighter soils "uphill" on the left down into VERY dark river bottomland soils left by the Colorado River on the rightside of the shot.... They can always plant corn! (Ethanol joke) The substrate of much of Austin is limestone (I cut thru a ton of it for the downtown Marriott) but I doubt they'll scrape that deep except in a few isolated areas. A shame our dirtwork Fchatter cannot post. He's observing his Agreement. Good on him.
...hey, ABIA is not a small airport with 20+ gates, and it's even an International airport with one (?) flight to Canada (yes Canada is not part of the US )
I think Bernie's entourage alone will smother it! LOL! But I'm sure much like Indianapolis, careful staging and scheduling will 'get it done"....
I was standing in the one security line there thinking, "How will they ever get everyone in and out of this place?" The drive from Houston will likely be faster than going thru Austin with a racetrack's worth of fellow travelers. BigTex, let's upgrade the Airport while we're at it...
The race will be OVER, by the time you got a set of plans thru the FAA.... I'm sure many of our Texas pilots are already planning on landing in San Marcos, Bastrop, etc. and being met by "some mysterious driver in dark shades, in an Italian car"......
My friend in Bastrop recently sold his place, I was really disapponited the pool/hot tub alone was like, $40K.....a beautiful home, very close by. (And he and I had bikes, to ride in...)
Not trying to strengthen a position and certainly not trying to demonize anyone. You are welcomed to your opinion based on the limited data that is available to you, though harping repeatedly that it will not happen even though the project is moving forward gets rather old...no I am not calling you a demon, just a pessimist Call me more optimistic, or better informed (helps to be local) but things look very promising for the Austin USGP in 2012. I'll take pictures...and bring back soil samples (if I am allowed)
What I'm doing is taking a wait and see approach and have said so here repeatedly. Again, there are not "So many detractors looking for it to fail" here.
I'd love to meet him..... I certainly can't be the only person that has found that......not tooo hard to find
If you go to the FB group that I linked too, they have aerial photos for the past 3 weeks. A lot of progress this past week. I didn't post all the pictures up, but you can see where they are starting to work on the private boulevard. Also, you can see where on the north end of the property, they are working on where the utilities are going to come in........On the pic I posted, you can even see some concrete Gasp..... gettin' er done
Tex, You seem to be in denial. Let me ask you a very pointed question. Do you believe they are on-schedule and everything is hunkey-dorey and all going exactly to plan? Nobody can possibly believe that, can they? We can argue the minutiae of whether they are 30 days or 60 days behind, or whether their proposed schedule theoretically allows them to catch up and complete the project, or whether they may have more time than the documented schedule due to an end-of-year race. But I cannot imagine anyone would argue (not with any conviction, at least) that this albatross is on schedule. The rate they are thus far progressing is much below that necessary to complete it on time. They do not need to simply continue... and continuing at this rate is not adequate progress, it is simply falling further behind. They need to accelerate to a much greater pace just to have a shot. Every day they maintain their current pace only increases the pace they must reach to make it in time. None of that matters, however, because I think we all know why they are not proceeding at the necessary pace, and until that problem is solved, it'll remain an albatross 'round Tavio's neck.
I have no idea and lack the time to pursue it (it might also not look too good, as Austin Commercial is my client, on other projects). Personally I have no idea, but you can fix a LOT with late project overtime and acceleration, (used carefully and in the right areas) especially when staring down HUGE Liquidated Damages, if you do not. I was just pointing out that modern project scheduling is quite complex and there's tons of 'float' and 'weather days" built in before it becomes a Hail Mary pass... I was on a job where Flour Daniels employed a FULL TIME schedule employee to run Primavera, but he rarely looked out the window! He would argue I need "17 hands today, deployed in Area 1B", but the precast delivery (Predicating event) was so far behind THAT part of the building wasn't even erected! As to Tavio's situation, I suspect the delays are in Permitting Approval (you cannot call for Inspections, to cover work past your active Permit) and not the money. You could be right, (about the money) and I could easily be wrong (about the City of Austin). I used to put the brakes on a project with a few bones and shards of native pottery, if the GC was pushing me around.... They made possesion of American Native antiquities a Federal Crime, and spoiled all my fun! A friend used to actively dig the Burial Mounds, which I did not agree with and found a little creepy.
Endangered species can have the same effect....... Can be good though. Out By my dad's place off 2222 & 620 across the street is a nature preserve for Golden Cheek wobblers?? nothing being built there anytime soon.....
Did you hear?? Newt got speckled at a book signing recently.... http://dallasmorningviewsblog.dallasnews.com/archives/2011/05/gingrich-glitte.html On a side note: the legislature is probably going to end up having to call a special session over the budget debates.......I called that one a month ago
+1 I find it rather offensive when people with a critical attitude are suddenly declared as wanting this project to fail. I'm highly sceptical of this project, but I want nothing more than its success. Seriously. If the USGP takes place in Austin, then I won't have to arrange my vacations around the GP schedule anymore and will be free to go wherever I want and save thousands of $ in the process. As it stands I am planning on going to another European GP next week. Simply because I don't think the USGP will happen. If I'm wrong, I'll be delighted and cancel my plans.
Lots of speculation goin on here. I think its safe to say the permits are holding them back. wastewater lines: folder awaiting update, should say approved and released https://www.ci.austin.tx.us/devreview/b_showpublicpermitfolderdetails.jsp?FolderRSN=10526496 gas main relocations: level 2 not started, should say approved and released https://www.ci.austin.tx.us/devreview/b_showpublicpermitfolderdetails.jsp?FolderRSN=10530671 drainage & water quality: same status https://www.ci.austin.tx.us/devreview/b_showpublicpermitfolderdetails.jsp?FolderRSN=10541189 Administrative site plan:In review, should say approved and released https://www.ci.austin.tx.us/devreview/b_showpublicpermitfolderdetails.jsp?FolderRSN=10550209 Talk about red tape. One thing I'v never seen looking at all this is in the master comments from the site plan -"This property is within the Controlled Compatible Land Use Area defined by Chapter 241 of the Local Government Code. Development on this property is limited by Chapter 25-13 of the Austin City Code. Airport hazards as defined in Federal Aviation Regulations Part 77, as adopted by the City in Sections 25-13-23, are prohibited." Checked those sections- An airport hazard is a land use, structure, or object of natural growth located in the controlled compatible land use area that: (1) exceeds the height limits of 200 feet (2) interferes with visual, radar, radio, or other systems for tracking, acquiring data relating to, monitoring, or controlling aircraft; (3) interferes with a pilots ability to distinguish between airport lights and other lights, results in glare in the eyes of a pilot, or impairs visibility in the vicinity of the airport; (4) creates a wildlife hazard, as defined by Code of Federal Regulations Title 14, Part 139; or (5) otherwise endangers or interferes with the landing, taking off, or maneuvering of an aircraft. These are strict federal regulations adopted by the city. You can't get variances on them.Don't know if they're going to matter.
Fascinating post and helluva way to make an entry to FChat! Welcome to the club. I also love the moniker. PS: Wanna clue us in on that British train robbery?
