Just traded my 575 for a 2006 430... does anyone know what the 4th switch (1st one opens the Gas Tank door -- the one on the extreme right -- looks like its an option) on the right hand side of the steering wheel is for?

Does it show the trunk open - if so its to put up the bullet proof shield - as you note though its a special option only in certain markets

    Ours is blank sorry.

the 1st button - Fuel door opening button
the 2nd button - Heated rear window and exterior rear
    view mirror defrost button
the 3rd one Luggage compartment lid opening
    button

the 4th one on ours is just a blank one.

Maybe its a special button you could order from the factory to eject the back seat driver husband.

Actually confused about what you are trying to write because of the (blah). Or are you talking about the Mode Switch button on the steering wheel?

    If you are then:

    1st switch = ice mode
2nd swtich = low grip mode
    3rd switch = sports mode
    4th switch = race mode

Yes, the 4th one the one that is usually blank; not the Manettino. My wife thinks its for the passenger ejector seat ... she won't sit in the car.

You're right, it's for the fog lights which is mandatory here in Europe ;)

Mystery Switch sounds so conspiracy theory. A little known fact is that in 1978 "Fog" and fog derivatives were outlawed in the United States. Visible water vapor is still allowed but only at specific altitudes above ground level, thus fog lights are no longer needed here.

Learned something new today :). Was also wondering the other day for what option it was.

But there's a new question now: Is it a switch internally blocked already connected to a harness, or just a blank? I ask because the M3 has the fog lights already prewired and connected, but the switch is blocked. By removing a lego-type block inside the switch, rear fog lights are fully operational, with dash light and all :). But being the anal type, I ordered an euro switch so I could have the fog light symbol illuminated on the switch at night, for a factory look. Some folks use that switch for exhaust valves, hence my curiosity :).

I was pulled over in my town for driving around with my fog lights on on the foggiest night ever. The cop thought my rear fog light meant that I had a tail light out since its just an extra bulb in the left tail light that is extra bright. If it was in both tail lights it would look like I had the brake on the whole time. I explained to him what it was and even showed him that I could turn it on or off with a button on my dashboard but he still didn't understand. He let me go with a warning and told me to get it "fixed".

Rats. I was hoping it was a stealth mode button which would make the car invisible to radar and laser.

ok, the switch is a blank but it does have the harness connected to it as I have taken that blank switch apart and install a micro switch inside of it to act as the mute switch for the escort radar systems we install...I would be that if someone wanted a rear fog light a euro switch and a bulb and a fuse and you would probably be done.... If I have time next time I have one in the bay I will check it out!

As we explained and exchanged in the taillight DIY LED upgrade thread (http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=301476&page=2), we found out that the rear light wire harness between US and EUR is different including the taillight internal bulb holders. So I'm afraid that for the US, it would be a big work to make the fog lights working because your rear wire harness isn't ready for that, neither the taillights themselves.
