Speed stated today, during coverage of the practice in Barcelona, that Kubica had signed a deal with Ferrari replacing Massa for 2013.

Not sure what FA will think about that. I have seen the two of them duke it out several times and RK sure can put it to 'em!

    Thoughts?

Alonso and Kubica are/were best friends. I don't think it would be a problem. I don't think such a miracle will happen now. I hear Kubica is still getting around like a 90 year old with a walker and that he will be lucky to be walking without a cane once this is all done and over with. He had much muscle damage and a ton of muscle that had to be cut out. Anyone watch House lately? Imagine him like that. Heartbreaking.

While having Bob and Fred together in red would be a dream, the more important question is whether Kubica will be driving ANYWHERE in 2013. We can hope it will be somewhere.

I'm just hoping it's not a minivan with a handicap placard.

Have to agree. I mean, I like Kubica. I remember seeing his horrible crash right down from our grandstand at Montreal in 2007 and then him winning his first race the next year at the same track. He proved he could shake off a heavy crash and injuries and come back in great form.

....BUT....this most recent accident and the resulting physical damage make it unlikely Ferrari would take a chance on him.

I wonder if he had signed a contract a few months ago (as was also rumored) possibly for 2012 onwards and the recent 'reconfirmation' of Massa for 2012 was a response to Kubica's likely unavailability

A lot of stronger friendships have crumbled when put to that sort of test.

Makes sense. Kubica has proven he can drive, and he's friends with Alonso

Given his condition and the other talent available, does not make sense.

I think it's BS. We don't even know if he can drive an F1 car again. Plus, i think Kubik is more focused on recovering and ensuring that he can use his hand properly again, rather than to dream to drive for Ferrari.

Having said that, Massa's the only driver that Ferrari wanted to replace since 2006...but he's still there...

Because of the damage to his hand, mainly I'd say.

I have to say I tend to agree with Andreas, however I hate to rule him out, but how long can top level wait around.

Times moves fast in F1, ask MS.

There again I hope he can make a come back, damn shame, I liked him.

Maybe you've read something more recent about his medical status than I have.

That's what 'experts' said about MS and Massa, but I digress.

Peter. Kubica's accident was much worse, as his hand was almost gone. Just IMHO he is done.

Let's see what happens, personally, I wish him the best and feel he was one of the best drivers during the last couple of seasons.

If he has signed it'll be under the pretension that his arm is working and that his performance is on par as what with it was used to be.

There were the rumors of RK signing with Ferrari last year and they may be true but now it just depends on his recuperation and how much mobility he can gain back. Wishing him the best but it is still way to early for predictions but I will add that I think Massa will be gone after his 2012 contract is over. Also as per F1 we way get an anouncement mid-season in 2012?

Not to deter from the OT but at this moment imho there are only two drivers currently racing who I feel would be a plus for the Scuderia and that is Kobi and Vitaly. Also with the new blood/drive/determination that Alonso has braught to the team would like to think those two could exceede expectations.

I was so excited when I read the rumor that Robert was talking with Ferrari but honestly I believe that dream is lost or atleast for another year. Hey any thoughts or opinion's about Conor Daly and if he is being looked at for Ferrari's young driver program? The kid has skill from what I have seen and most of our US talent is sucked up by IndyCar and NASCAR, we need another US F1 driver asap.
