When a certain green glass GTB308 was in the Dixon show rooms,I was hopping my grandmother would buy it for me.
what's that got to do with it? she was still too mean to buy you a ferrari when you were young enough to enjoy it. Now you're too old and decrepit.
Bambino was my first car - and it'll be my last!!!! If I had to choose today....maybe an Alfa 147 if I could afford it?
If we were talking bikes I would have the same answer substituting Bambino with CX500. How many K's on the Bambino ??
'56 Ford Customline was my first. Just finished helping my sister's boy restore his father's Star model to the same pristine Bblack and chrome it'd been when his father drove it wooing his mother. For a lad who never knew his dad it was a big deal. To me it is a great ohos and I'd take one as my first today, if I could get it! I feel a little sorry for todays' youth who can't learn how their first car works first hand.
First car 13 yrs ago was this 1983 Sigma sedan. In 2011, it would probably still be the same 1983 Sigma sedan. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Have to answer in two parts, the first car I drove after obtaining my driving license was a Toyota Landcruiser Diesel truck back in 1985. It was one dad used on the farm. I drove it for two weeks before I slid out of control doing fishtails in the driveway of Werribee Park and went sideways into a tree, bent it like a banana. Result, thrown out of home! About two years later things had calmed down and Dad had a Benz 300D with a very noisy differential. I fixed it myself and drove the Benz for 3 years until Dad traded it. I then bought my first car in 1991, at the height of the 90s downturn. I bought from a repossession Auction a 1984 BMW 528i Motorsport. The owner who lost it tried to buy it back by disassembling the car before the repo man showed, it was a rolling shell, I got the car plus three pallets of parts. He even took out the headlining and the carpets. Again, parents horrified. It took the best part of a year to get it back together. Amazing how much easier the 'net makes these things now! It was huge, huge fun, came standard with a Getrag 5 speed, LSD, Bilsteins, Recaro seats. I think I spent most of the time going sideways and it has a very predictable and communicative chassis. Did over 350,000 kms and lost my license 3 times driving it. Average brakes though despite ABS as standard. What would I drive now? Don't know, maybe the same. If something new and I could afford it, a VW Polo or a Suzuki Swift. A classic if not doing too many miles, a Lancia Fulvia, Alfa 105 1750 or a BMW 2002. Image Unavailable, Please Login
