Now that Austin is on the official FIA calendar, will the race really happen?

  1. Yes, it will happen.

  2. No, no way for construction to finish.

Sounds like they need to get Steve Wynn involved. When Wynn goes to build a casino in Las Vegas, everything magically happens as if he is some sort of 1800s vintage cowboy with guns-a-blazin. Seems like a red tape mess at the moment there

Hardly a mess, really. Been discussed here several times; the permits are held up until they solve the public road improvement funding. Local municipality is trying to set up a special tax to cover it.....

Didn't look at the numbers. It was just refreshing to hear a piece that didn't express the costs in the number of teacher jobs that could be saved.....

On a side note: Looks like they're going to get a budget through after all. Guess we'll know soon enough if the State is going to appropriate the money for this. Then its off to the next hurdle of Travis County approving ~4 or 5MM to cover the local contribution :D

This guy is going to get discredited by the nay sayers, just watch.

He screwed up a city economic development plan-

    http://tomeblen.bloginky.com/2011/03/06/high-priced-economic-development-experts-no-substitute-for-local-knowledge-vision-leadership/

And admits he was wrong. This just two months ago.

I just don't get why they need public investment. If the track is going to have all the bells and whistles, it should sell itself. I know for a fact Tavo is sincere about wanting this to work. At one point you have to ask if the state money is worth all the bad publicity. FACT:
no public money invested, doubters and haters would have no leg to stand on, and scurry like cockroaches.

It doesn't matter how many bells and whistles the facility has. Without the tax incentives, Tavo is going to have to pay out $25MM every year to the FOM before he can even try and recoup his sunken costs; don't see that happening. Even if 100k every year pay $250 for a ticket, that barely covers the sanctioning fees. He's going to have to sell a lot of over priced drinks, and tee shirts to pay for the facilities.

I wasn't referring to anyone here. I'm talking about the folks in Texas worrying about the teachers.

How does a cockroach with no legs scurry?

    It doesn't. It's bird food.

The teachers will be appeased with drawing on a little of the Rainy Day fund. That, coupled with Comb's 1B higher revenue projections, and everything will be allright, and the appropriations for this at the state level will quietly sneak though.

Does the conversion factor pundits use of 1 TJ (teacher job) = 48,000 USD bother u too? A little on the light side if you ask me, but sure does make for inflated lay off numbers....

On Speeds broadcast of the race today, they mentioned COTA, saying the excavation is almost done, and they've started work on the tunnell

He also used the conditional case when talking about the race date. I was surprised to hear anything approaching doubt from SPEED.
