Er, you obviously do not realise it was Lewis that broke team orders and would not allow Alonso his chance at qualifying after Alonso had towed him. This directly caused the McLaren team to loose the 2007 WDC to Ferrari.

So against the team rules was Lewis that he resorted to tell Ron Dennis to fnck off, when Ron tried to get him to tow the line.

So as far as I am concerned, I wouldn't trust Lewis at all.

ps: All you guys that think Alonso helped steal documents from Ferrari and was part of the "naughty" McLaren team need to realise that he now drives for Ferrari, so there are no hard feelings there at all. Again it was up to Ferrari to keep their documents safe, and they knew they had a disgruntled employee, thus didn't on purpose to screw McLaren ... worked like a charm. Very clever these mafia types . Maybe Alonso was already working for Ferrari?

 

it's so obvious that I don't know why it needs clarification, but it does. Of course the lewis fanbois will never see it that way. that was the turning point for McLaren/lewis/alonso that day.

My point is that Lewis is indeed ruthless but that it doesn't matter in today's F1. No one cares what happened when he and Alonso were team mates.

Pete, so true, surprised by the way Ron Dennis handled the whole matter. After getting Alonso who had just won back to back championships with Renault it was crazy. Imagine if Vettel wins again this year goes to a different team and the F2 Champion of the previous year joins and has the same scenario as what happened at McLaren in 2007.

 

Hooray! Some bloody common sense on here today. I don't care how fast Lewis is/was that first year...he made some big rookie mistakes and Alonso could have won that WDC that year. I don't blame him for being so pissed off....and I'm still staggered, as you say, that Ron did what he did. It cost him plenty on so many levels.

 

was it not alonso who complained in monaco and asked the team to tell lewis not to challenge him during that race? lewis would've won that race, and in doing so would've gotten 2 more points that day than he did because of alonso's ego. those 2 points were the difference in the driver's championship (lewis lost to raikonnen by 1 point that year).

and mclaren wasn't eligible for the 2007 WDC thanks to their disqualification, the disqualification that happened thanks to alonso backing dennis into a corner to come clean because he was going to go to the FIA himself and tell them mclaren stole ferrari's design.

so your point of mclaren losing the constructors championship is a mute point.

Peter, Karma and the FIA came back in a big way to bite Ron. He lost not only the championships that year, but I think it contributed to the end of his time as team principal at McLaren and probably his marriage. Great read on the whole subject is the Eccelstone book, "I am no angel."
