    I'm half way through timing my cams and have noticed that the cam position lug on the back end of the exh cam is fully adjustable. I'm referring to the lug which rotates and excites the Cam Position Sensor.

    I cannot find any mention whatsoever of setting this lug in the WSM, either in the engine or engine management sections.

    I know the ECU only uses that signal to figure out if a given cylinder is in intake or power stroke, but my question is;

    is there a correct procedure to set those lugs once I've timed the cams?

    At the moment with the engine at TDC and the cams set they are about 30* off the 12 o'clock.

    In the absence of any info I'll leave them alone of course, but I'd like to know and check they're right before I button it all back up.

    Cheers, Bob.

    Don't know the specific answer to your question, but this type of situation is common for cam sensors since they typically need to be positioned quite a bit BTDC in order to generate their signal before the earliest possible firing event needs to occurs (i.e., the cam signal event occurs and then the ECU can apply the appropriate delay to whatever it's doing; the ECU can't receive the cam signal and then say "whoops, I should've done something earlier") -- is it at ~30* camshaft/~60* crankshaft BTDC? Like you said, if it's only figuring out which stroke that the engine is on, it could be designed to be positioned anywhere in the cycle, but somehow occurring just before the firing event seems the most straight-forward approach to me...

    Hi, I concur fully with your post. The lugs are currently around 60 crank degrees BTDC. I'd still like to know the right procedure if anyone can chime in.
