My neighbor is selling his 97 Defender 90. It has about 107k miles and is in good shape. The owner has taken good care of it and purchased it with ~75k. He said to make him an offer since there is no reference point. Low mile ones are 45-50k. Cant find any else. Oh it is white/black auto. I am not sure what to offer. Looks to be a good winter ride.
Any details on Defenders or need to know info? Seems pretty reliable.

I think you can buy a 110 that was updated (basically rebuilt) for less than that. I've seen pre-1990 110s and they look brand new after the work. I love these just as much as any 90/110 fan, but the prices for US market 110s (very limited) and 90s is ridiculous.

I saw a green one with similar miles recently at a body shop that had cars for sale out front. Saw it on a Saturday. Called on Monday. It was sold. Had it for 18k. It was a manual though.

NAS 90's fetch a pretty hefty price. A little over 100k miles on one isn't high mileage. The engines and drivetrains in them are pretty indestructible (Buick V8, ZF trans, Leyland truck axles) if you keep them maintained. They have oil leak issues due basically because the drivetrains are 40-50 year old designs.

1997 was the last year for the NAS Defender, meaning it's the latest and greatest that is legal in this country.

NADA for a clean 97 with 107k miles is 43k$

The one mentioned above for 18k was probably a salvage rebuilt vehicle (especially at a body shop), or it was a Discovery Series I with a body put on it (same exact chassis everything) there are conversion kits out for them.

It was a 97. Probably why it sold so quickly. Didn't know the book, but when I called him and he told me 18, I was totally shocked.

The chassis alone is worth that much to some people.

A friend of mine bought a '97 Defender soft top a few years ago and he paid about $30K for his.

Owning a Land Rover Defender is on my desired stable short-list! :)
For $18k, I would've bought it alone for the poseur factor.
    Thanks!

I got more info about the car, and it seems that it has no accidents and all service records since new ownership, as well as some from before. Previously maintained at a n LR Dealer. No salvage title. Haven't driven it but all is in good shape. There are a few rusty looking bots on the black bars but those are being replaced. The rear door was replaced because of some possible rust? Any more info would be greatly helpful.

They rust a lot. They are not the most reliable trucks out there. Their dynamics are funny, and speeding with one is quite dangerous. Spares and accessories are sometimes incredibly overpriced.

They also feel like nothing else in four wheels, and give me more smiles per mile than any other land vehicle. I daily drive my 110, and plan to keep it forever.

I just sold my '94 with 101K on it to a friend. It's a cool truck but at the end of the day, I prefer Range Rovers, as their ultimate day-to-day usability and comfort is leaps and bounds above a D90. On the other hand, the D90's cool factor is hard to match ;)

Do beware of gearboxes, they're known to fail. That's straight from a friend of mine who was the former shop foreman at an LR dealer for ages.

And regarding MSRP when new, I know my '94 was $38K off the lot.

    Cheers,
    Aaron

they are very popular here and have a real unthusiastic following. parts are cheap. autos are very rare. plenty of aftermarket parts dealers would send out to usa. even a few magazines dedicated to these trucks. i myself however have an f250 xlt psd long bed which over here is rarer than a rare automatic defender.
