I see the black 246 in Qld has now been dropped to $200K.
That MAY perhaps be a little closer to the mark given the condition.

Well, your car is Aussie delivered. Sounds like this one was a UK car. :):)

You wouldnt do it to a "normal" car, because you would be the typical car salesman/con-man. ;);)

Doing it to a Ferrari which 9 times out of 10 has a WELL documented history doesnt seem so bad to me.

Without tossing the old service history in the bin, the new engine rebuild/resto speedo replacement would be documented and I would be ok with buying a car like that.

An Fchatter had a new engine put in his 430 by the dealer. Warranty job. Engine had 21,000 miles on it at the time. He asked them to zero the odometer at the same time and they did. It has been documented on paper (and on the internet) so there is no confusion for the next owner.

If I rebuild the engine or restore my 348 and I had the option of putting in a new speedo I probably would do it.

In saying that also, I guess you could just write down on a piece of paper the km's the engine was rebuilt/car restored and that would suffice.

If you dont ever sell the car, then it wont matter I guess. :):)

I wasn't that impressed with the EBC's to be honest Moretts. I had the greens at Mallala and they were hopeless IMO. It could be that I didn't bed them in properly. I guess it's all personal preference, but having run the DS3000's at Phillip Island, that'd be my preference if I had to choose.

Interesting description of this 355. :p:p

Unusually very quick car, compared to other 355s. Leaves 360s in my wake. See video link

    I bet. ;);)

Just had a look again, there is a $55K price difference between the cheapest and most expensive 355 Spiders for sale on Carpoint.

If you bought the cheap one, would you spend $55K bringing it up to the condition of the more expensive one?

They all look pretty good to me in the pics, so I doubt it would take that much to tidy up the cheaper ones, if at all. :):)

    Especially if you're a mechanic. :D:D

    yep, and then some :

    $45k engine
    $20k paint job
    +
    +
    +
in the end what 360C says is correct, buy the best one you can afford, you'll save heaps in the long run

I spent enough on my GT4 to buy a Boxer in the end, it is ridiculous how much ANY car will cost you if you go down the fix-her-up path

The cheap one has 70,000 km on the clock and the expensive one has 14,000 km on the clock.

Why do you need to rebuild the engine if it is running fine? I assume the cheaper car is running fine. Wont take long to have someone perform compression and leakdown tests to tell you engine condition.

IF it is ****ed, then you would negotiate a lower price anyways. But I doubt there would be anything wrong with it. 70,000 km on the 355 engine is nothing. There are many 355s I know of that have 70,000 original miles on them. Some have had valve guides replaced, some not. The last of them had the valve guide issue addressed from the factory apparently.

I understand what you are saying, of course. If I was in the market for one, I would be REALLY winky about spending $50K+ more to get the car with lower km's as one would automatically assume that one is the better car. Maybe because I can fix it myself. If I wasnt a mechanic, then I can understand where you are coming from too mate. Some people dont even know how to check their engine oil in their cars.

I looked at a 355 at the same time I was 348 shopping. Both cars immaculate, yet I didnt think the 355 was worth $70K more than my 348. So I stuck with what I wanted anyways.

Same theory applies here, I dont think one 355 Spider is worth $50K+ more than another. Unless engine is toast and it needs a full repsray. Which I dont think is the case here by looking at the pics.
