I know, when I saw him go around the backmarker on the high side I knew it was trouble, especially because he was way off the gas and driving conservatively.
ALL of the Grandstands for the downtown Houston circuit were aluminum, RENTALS!!! Man I wash I still had my AutoCAD work from that, on my terminal here....long gone though.
"Conservatively" would have been on the rear wing of that backmarker, (and watching his mirrors) but in the heat of the race it's easy to forget!

I think Hildebrand deserved the win. Having said that, I am not sure why the yellow was not thrown at Indy for Hildebrand's incident. Normally, the yellow and the emergency crews at Indy are on the scene without any delay. In fact, I do not care what F1 circuit you might attend, nothing, nothing, can beat the timing of the crews at Indianapolis. They are the best. I absolutely disagree with your comment about the corner workers at Monaco. And I have been there. Today, F1 corner workers are excellent, but not close to the people at Indy. As for Indianapolis, for the IRL, having Hildebrand win by crossing the finish line under these conditions, no amount of money could have bought a better result and subsequent PR for the IRL. So I do not believe for one second that the race was intentionally "given" to Wheldon, a driver not exactly favored by the powers that be in the IRL. Not sure we will ever know why the yellow was not thrown as quickly as normal, except someone figured that they did not want the Indianapolis 500 to end with a yellow flag. I might have made the same decision myself. In that split second, I can not imagine any human thinking, "let's give it to Wheldon", when the popular (read better ad revenue) decision would have been to give it to Hildebrand. But wait, what has this got to do with Austin?

I believe so. They have done a bunch of excavation. I also follow them on FB and it looks as if the dirt moving is getting to the point of putting down building foundations.
They've even put some concrete in, and getting to lay pipes. The $25MM from the main event trust fund is in place now. And the public road works have at least reached some agreement. Can't tell if FEMA has approved the flood plain remappings, but if they applied in December/Janurary, it should be approved by the end of this month. Good news all around, I hope

LULZ I kind of figured it to be a liner they put down underneath the dirt to control drainage, sort of like in land fills. Complete guess though
It is a 60mil liner that is used to retain water, it sits about 10 feet below the surface of the track and goes all the way around (Imaging a u shape) It is covered with a mix of sandy clay (approx 40 - 60) that has a high saturation level with water. Coupled with a pretty intricate irrigation system to maintain the right humidity levels, this will help with large temperature variations that would normally result in cracking or bumps...well I least I think that's what it is, pure speculation on my part
