I have a Nikon D3000 with two standard kit lenses: an 18-55mm and a 55-200mm. I really wanted an ultra wide angle lens, so I went ahead and ordered a SIGMA 10-20mm 10-20 F4 LENS KIT that includes the following:

    -Lens
    -Lens hood
-Three Filters (UV, CP, and one for fluorescent lighting)
    -Soft lens case
    -3 piece lens cleaning kit
    -Lens cap holder
-Original box (it's brand new...never used)

    all for $499.00.

I'm a bit nervous with spending that much money; although it's too late to think twice. Did I just make a $500 mistake or is it worth it? Anyone have photos that they've taken with the 10-20mm? I'm worried that the 10mm won't be much different than the kit 15mm.

    Thanks in advance,
    -G.B.

    look around flicker for examples.

you can search specifically for 10-20mm sigma shots on a nikon if you set up the search parameters.

10mm on your crop is around 16mm on a FF, this lens will be much wider FOV than your 15mm which is a 22mm+/- on FF.

Only you can decide if the $500 was worth it.

seems a bit of searching would have garnered a bit better price

maybe forsaking some of the trepidation.

I've spent more to go wider and have been quite happy I did.

    wide is fun.

I borrowed a 10-20 from a friend a while back. Didn't use it enough to give proper judgement but she swears by it. I've been in the market myself, but I'm going with the Tokina 11-16mm with a constant f/2.8 aperture :D :D

Only problem is they're in such high demand you can't find them new anywhere and second hand lenses are going for a premium.

Did you like it the few times you used it? I still have a little voice in my head saying, "Idiot idiot idiot idiot" over and over again for buying this lens without even seeing one or using one. I almost went with the Tokina 11-16mm, but I was informed that Sigmas had better image quality. That could be debatable...just like Nikon vs. Canon arguments.

Honestly I shot like two or three frames with it and put it down, not because I didn't like it, but I wasn't quite comfortable with it yet to use on a car shoot. I'm mainly getting one for event photography and trying to get into some real estate as well. Plus, another lens is a good thing :)

I don't know about that lens in particular but I've got a big 50-500 Sigma that I like very well. It's a great quality lens.

I've had a Sigma 10-20 for a while now and been very happy with it, the images in the link below were taken with either a Nikon D40 or D90. One thing to check is that it's an HSM version (which I think all the Nikon versions are), otherwise it won't autofocus on your D3000.
