Are there any unaccounted for 250 GTOs?

Yes the 288 GTO was FIA homologated on July 18, 1984 as F 106 AB/G. An extension of the certifiate from 1975, originally for F 106 AB (308 GTB) The 288 GTO is a variant of the 308 GTB. Some early brochures had 308 GTO printed.

The ONLY reason for the 308 reference is a deliberate atempt by Ferrari to pull the wool over the eyes of the FIA by convincing them that the 288 was a variant of the 308 in order to simplify the Homologation process.

They were very good on pulling that off too!!! The 288 and 308 have very few parts in common.

All the FIA had to do was look at the numbers and Ferrari's intent would have been obvious.

But, as the late great TC Browne once said: "There are lies, damned lies, and then there are car manufacturer's statistics". Or words to that effect :)

There's a name from the past. First piece of his I remember was a Lamborghini group test called Flat Out In Oxnard. If I remember correctly.

Thanks George, yes it really is quite special.

A renowned Ferrari specialist who has seen these cars since new and followed them all over the world inspected it recently and determined that it was the nicest example he ever saw.

No its not for sale, but as you know, at a certain number, the possibility of it becoming available exists.

    Intercooler question:
Are the big Behr intercoolers on the 288 air to air or water to air? And if water, where is the intercooler radiator positioned in the car?

    Thanks,
    Bill
