Since I currently live in a ....hole of a town with alot of stray's I thought it may be a perfect time for my question. I have a cat that I rescued when she was just about 8 week's old and our bond is very very strong yet she just had a litter of four last thursday and I cannot take them back too Houston with me, I'm torn.

It's almost like loosing a child I tell ya, what will she do without having me there too pick her up and sleep on my lap? How have other's handled this kind of situation? I have Mr.Max back at home (I rescued him also) but he has my mother too count on but Ms.Kitty has only known me.

Any good advice/opinion's would be appreciated as I'm kinda lost.

    Thanks,
    Gregg

Whatever you do, have them all spay/neutered before you go.

If you can't afford it there may be volunteer groups in your area that will help.

Good advice and I knew that although a cat cannot endure that procedure unlesss they are atleast 6 months old but I will be back 'home' within a month. As I said I'm just kinda torn because I'm thinking more about them than I am thinking about myself. I'm certain I will decide what will be best for them over the next few week's and I do appreciate your input.

    Best,
    Gregg

Dude take them with you!! You will regret leaving them behind, I know I would. Or find a good family to take them, but make sure you meet them!

    Mitch,
Man I know what your saying but I do not think it will be possible for many reason's that I do not want to get into. Also I currently live in a small town that is overrun with stray's and the people here are overwhelmed. Oh I almost forgot that yesterday I remembered this 'no kill' rescue/shelter back in Houston (I am moving back home) that I took a dog too back in '07 that I rescued from the side of the road.

I have a rescue back at home in Houston, Mr.Max. Then I had Travis who I rescued along with Ms.Kitty (Ms.Kitty is my current issue) and Travis ran off and I have not seen him since Feb.

Gregg, have you put up kitty to give away notices anywhere? Youve got their lives in your hands.

My cat of 16 years died about a year ago and I miss her so much.

Try giving it away first. Somebody might be willing to take care of her for you.

But I do not think you need to worry too much if you really have no choice but to let her go... Cat is very good at adjusting to live in a wild alone. They are small tiger and they are good hunter.

This can't be compared to your situation, but I live in Thailand where stray cat and dog are common. But most stray cats really aren't stray at all. They simply walk all over the place and they come in and out of my house at will. At night I have over 15 cats in my yard (it's a very big yard about 2 acre of land). They eat birds, lizards, and I feed them too. They fight, mate, give birth in my house...They chase my 3 dogs!!! But when morning come, all but 3 are left around my kitchen... So, I do think you do not have to worry too much about cat living alone. They are social animal who can live alone... They are great survivor.

Yes they are great survivor's I know that my concern for her welfare was established when I rescued her as a kitten and she would wake me up trying to nurse lol! I have a great neighbor now who will make sure she is fed along with the two other cats that the previous tenant left behind and I have been feeding for the past year.

Kinda tough sometimes though when you have a special bond with a pet. Yet I do have Max back in Houston who will console me. I rescued him aswell and I was told he slept at my door for two week's wondering "why isn't my daddy here?"

    Gregg.

Try to find them a home where you are now with a neighbor.

If you strike out, take them with you to Houston, try it for a week. If it doesn't work out, as you said, there's a no kill shelter you can take them to.

Don't give them to someone you don't trust. Better to take them to the shelter than to leave them to their own devices.

Just my $.02 as a cat owner for 40 years.

Well I have lost two kittens within the past 4 day's so I am bottle feeding the last two and hoping for the best. The strongest one is a twin of it's mom and the other must resemble his/her dad but has a full belly and is now passed out. I'm doing my best but daym loosing a pet is tough, thank God for Max back at home.

Lost another kitten today and I was crushed! I baught formula and bottle fed him/her but it did not seem too help. So there I sat infront of the 'puter about 3-4pm and I hear the kitten just go off meowing and screaming and bouncing around like crazy and then it just chilled. I later realized it was actually it's last fight for life so after that I just held it watching it's labored breathing until it was over, I cried like a baby for the next hour.

The only sense I can make of this is that the three had health issue's since birth so it was only a matter of time and then again God has a plan for all of us. Oh man but let me tell you it was a heart wrenching experience and one I would not wish upon even my worst enemy.

There is a condition known as “failure to thrive” where the baby just does not have the physical makeup to survive in a natural situation. There is often no explanation why these babies just lose weight & die despite all supportive attempts. Losing an innocent kitten is heartbreaking. But not your fault as the embryo has often been compromised since the beginning. Do the best you can for the baby & respect that God takes who he chooses.

My surviving baby Ms.Kitty #2. Thankfully my neighbor took her and mom in and they are still with her happy and healthy. I cannot wait to get another 'putty tat'.

Every pet I've had through the years have been rescues. They give you an unconditional love that can't be replaced.
    Take them with you.
