Ha! I got 1 right out of all those! I will not be quitting my day job to become a bookie anytime soon.
I got all mine right. I picked Quinton across the board. Just messing..... I was bummed they gave it to Johnson instead of Torres. and I didnt like seeing Story beat Alves. Wouldn't Story vs Kos or Fitch be a GREAT fight?? I'd love to see that!!!!! I think i'm finally a fan of Stann. Didnt respect him too much till this fight. Mir SUCKS!!!!! Big Country I like but, SUCKS (kinda) If he only lost all his weight and fought at 205!! Quinton Looked good against Hamill but over all should have KO'ed him and Quinton GASSED!!!! NOT GOOD! He's definitely past his prime. I never cared for Hamill. I think he SUCKS Too!
Gee Armen, lotsa' negativity in your post there.......have you been taking your vitamins? Rick Story - big win, but so boring to watch. I hate 1-trick ponies that wrestle. At least it's exciting to watch a striker, or a BJJ specialist. But wrestling? It's just the transitional style to either standing up or submitting. Nice win by Travis Browne, although I think Struve is over-rated. Like Armen, I wasn't impressed with Stann until this fight. The guy is serious. I think he's an interesting match-up against any of the top 5 in his division. I thought Mir looked pretty good. He completely dominated Nelson, which surprised me. Nelson gassed quickly. Nice win for Rampage. Would love to see him fight Jones.
I think Jones would destroy Rampage. No one comes close to the cardio level that Jones has in the LHW division.... Story is going to get a top level guy in his next fight and really be tested....
Well, Story just beat one of the highest level guys out there, and in my opinion, was just really tested. You don't get much higher than Alves. I would like to see him against a top BJJ guy, someone who can work off of his back. As far as Jones goes, there's a few guys that I think I would like to see him fight, such as Rashad, Machida, Thiago Silva, Phil Davis, and Rich Franklin.
Boy your right, I was so negative. I must have hated the world that day! Anyway, back to MMA. I think Machida could give Jones a good fight. and I think i'm gonna try to jump on the Story banwagon. I think it'll go far.
GSP v Diaz announced. I think GSP is going to walk through Diaz (at least this is the most likely scenario). While I admit that Diaz has improved since is first run in the UFC, he is still a guy that lost to Karo, Diego, Riggs, and Sherk. Neither of the above is an amazing wrestler (although Sherk is obviously very good) and each was able to smother Diaz. GSP is by far the biggest challenge of Diaz's career and has fought way better competition since Diaz. So while Diaz has certaintely improved since his days of dropping three straight, GSP has likely improved far more in the same time frame. 4 years ago GSP was better than Diaz, today GSP is far better. While Diaz's pitter patter stand up is very good (and his power is deceptive) I think GSP will keep range, jump inside and strike, then ground Diaz. Rinse and repeat for 5 rounds.
I agree with Alves a top guy, but you never know what kind of person is entering the octagon with him. Some fights he is unstoppable and other times he looks weak and not ready.... He has lost 3 of his last 5 fights and the 2 wins were by decision.... Although he does look like he has his weight issue under control. I want to see him fight a guy who comes to bang hard every round, every fight.... Maybe Fitch or Sanchez... Jones would walk thru Franklin like a hot knife going thru warm butter...
This is huge! I don't think GSP will walk through Diaz. Nobody walks through Diaz. I would guess Diaz has the advantage in the reach department, so I'm sure GSP will be looking to keep this on the ground predominantly. It may end up being a boring fight, where GSP ground and pounds to a win. He's certainly not submitting Diaz. Kudos to the UFC for putting this fight together. I hope we see this trend carrying across to the HWs.............would love to see Velasquez against Overeem. So many matchups can be made at HW.
By walk through I mean that it won't be overly competitive. GSP will do what GSP does and other than a few moments here or there I don't see Nick winning a round. Nick has looked great against so-so competition for sure but GSP has dominated top competition.
I guess I would ask you this..........do you think Diaz will be a tougher match for GSP than Shields was? Two judges gave the 4th and 5th rounds to Shields, so if Shields is capable of winning a round, I would think that Diaz certainly is as well, especially if it stays on the feet like it did against Shields, because Diaz is light years ahead of Shields in standup. It's a very interesting matchup, and I think GSP will have his hands full more so than he did against Shields.
I don't think Shields was a very tough match up for GSP (on paper). GSP's wrestling was way too good and GSP's striking was (until the eye poke) light years better. GSP seems to fight at his opponents level lately. Example: GSP destroyed John Fitch and BJ Penn who are two of the very very best at their weight classes. The GSP we saw against Shields was really the worst GSP we have seen (maybe since his days in TKO). I don't agree with the two judges that gave Shields the last two rounds (maybe the 5th round) but if GSP hadn't gotten poked in the eye there is a good chance that the fight would have played out like the first round for all five. GSP would jab and dance his way to victory and would have earned the victory. The variable (eye-poke) makes that such a hard fight to call. By the same token I feel that both BJ Penn and John Fitch are better than Diaz and we saw what GSP did to them. I should note, however, that I like Nick Diaz. I think he is a character and he is almost always in exciting fights, but guys like Sherk and even Joe Riggs showed the way to beat Diaz. Again Diaz has improved but GSP has improved (likely) more. What excites me about this match up is that Diaz will FORCE GSP to fight and I think a lot of people who have forgotten how good GSP is (and perhaps how poorly Diaz has faired against top level opponents) are going to be quickly reminded. Just my opinion of course.
I'm a big Diaz fan, and I have to agree with everyone of your points. I just don't see him giving much of a challenge to GSP.
The thing is a I am a Diaz fan as well. I remember watching him knock out Lawler (I remember thinking the whole time this guy is nuts, Lawler is going to KO him) at UFC whatever (maybe 50ish?). Not a HUGE fan but I think he is really really good. It's just GSP is a blue chip-once in a life time athlete that has incredible work ethic. The tougher his opponents the better he fights, and Diaz will bring out the best of him. I do miss the GSP of old though, the guy who used his ability to tear through people vs. kinda beat them. I am hoping Nick can bring this out at UFC 137.
i See EVERYTHING totally differently. I'm afaid and always have been of Diaz fighting GSP. This will be his toughest test. These 2 are equal in every way! It'll be a WAR!
It's amazing (and refreshing!) how people can see the same thing in two totally different lights. My take, if I breaking them down, is this... Striking- Maybe the most equal aspect of this match up. Diaz has really good movement (boxing wise) and combines combination punching with head movement in a way that reminds me of a prime Antonio Tarver. GSP has better in-and-out movement, he can enter the pocket, strike, and move away with almost ease. However Diaz's long reach may negate GSP's ability to get out of the pocket with out taking some damage. So while I feel GSP is the technically more complete striker, I think that his biggest weakness is going backwards against pressure fighters. Diaz will keep coming forward, which is going to force GSP to do something. Wrestling- I don't think they are even close to equal in this aspect. GSP has dominated (wrestling) wise the two common opponents they have had (Sherk and Karo). Diaz is a so-so wrestler who at times has show good counter wrestling. GSP has dominated the best wrestlers in his weight class. GSP should be able to dictate where this fight takes place. Ground- Diaz has a tricky guard and has managed to threaten most of his opponents with his Jiu Jitsu. With the exception of his first fight with Matt Hughes, GSP has dominated every opponent he has taken to the ground, on the ground. GSP has passed the guard of some amazing Jiu-Jitsu guys, most noticeably BJ Penn. Granted Jiu Jitsu is far to intricate to say x guy is better than y guy and BJ and Diaz have vastly different guards, but I think GSP will have no problem working around the long legs of Diaz and using his top game to stifle Diaz from either half-guard or side control. Heart- This is the intangible that I would give to Diaz by a huge margin. The eye poke and loss of vision in his eye seemed to bother GSP more then similar circumstances have bothered other fighters. GSP was clearly (almost to an embarrassing degree) a superior striker to Jake Shields, but the loss of vision in his eye changed that completely. I can only imagine that fighting with one eye is FAR more challenging, but I have seen fighters maintain an initially slimmer advantage with similar damage. GSP really seemed to fall off once he was injured and it seemed to get worse for him as the fight wore on. While I don't question GSP's heart (as in his will to win) he seemed very shaken up and this seemed to allow an inferior striker in Shields to have an advantage greater then the physical damage. Diaz on the other hand seems cool and collected regardless of the peril he finds himself in. He has been dropped multiple times (Gomi, Noons, Daley) and never seems out of the fight. In two the examples above he came back to win by stoppage and looked by changing the tide in the initial Noons fight before the cut stoppage. The only way I see Diaz winning (minus a submission which would shock me) is if he is able to cause an injury on GSP which might make GSP loose confidence/focus and take advantage of this. Otherwise I see the fight playing out like this. GSP initially lands a couple strikes, Diaz stalks. GSP is in and out, Diaz starts talking **** and throwing his hands in the air (at least one time during this GSP will hit him IMO). When Diaz comes forward with too much pressure GSP will shoot and take Diaz down with ease (I think we may see some pretty high powered slams as well). On the ground I see Diaz moving his hips and trying to stay active but GSP will slice through the guard and get to side control/half guard and do minimal damage. On occasion Diaz will get to his feet, likely from attempting sweeps from half guard. Rinse and repeat on the feet and each round. The most likely outcome, IMO, is that GSP will win a 5 round decision and Diaz is going to look very worse for wear. It will probably be another dominate, although at times lackluster, performance from the champ, who will take the mic from Joe Rogan and promise to finish next time. Of course Diaz is capable of submitting anybody at 170 or hurting GSP and working towards a KO/TKO, which is why they fight.
Help! Was watching my DVRed copy of the TUF finale, eagerly anticipating the main event, Ramsey vs. Ferguson, and I guess the event ran longer than what was scheduled, so my DVR cut most of that fight out. All I got to see was the 1st minute. Does anyone know where I can see it? What an awesome event! Guida - wow! This guy is one of the hardest workers in MMA. To grind Pettis down the way he did was brilliant. And Pettis off his back? Incredible. I can't believe he couldn't secure a submission. And some of the crazy strikes Pettis attempted/landed - the guy is hugely talented. The Cope/O'Neil fight was so entertaining. I was thoroughly impressed with Cope. The improvement in this fight over what I saw in him on the series was immense. He looked great in this fight.
Try this--It was working then stopped... May come back up... http://www.mma-core.com/videos/_Ramsey_Nijem_vs_Tony_Ferguson_TUF_13_Finale?vid=10019857&tid=100
Perfect! Thanks. Just watched it. Very nice KO. Both of these fighters were certainly the 2 best in the house, and deserved to be fighting for it all. However, both guys have questionable characters IMO.......Ramsey with his getting naked for his team mates and wearing nail polish on his toes in the cage, whereas Ferguson turned into an awful ****** when he was drunk. I could overlook Ramsey's actions as just being different and funny, whereas I found Ferguson's actions to be quite disturbing. What did you guys think of these two, character-wise?
