Its true that Bernie never intended to see Silverstone abandoned but he was willing to play hardball to get the improvements he wanted. Ask Donnington.

No doubt about that. Question is if COTA is Silverstone or Donnington?

Indeed. At Indy500, only 1st place celebrates. At least in F1 it's the top three. Hey, was it $2.7M for the driver only or for the team? Just curious.

And going back to subject: When the hell will tickets be sold for Austin?

    True.

But considering they only have 10 months to complete the project,... they have a LONG way to go.

Has Tavo commented publicly on the June 17 race date yet?

Bidding out the building finishes......Guess that means they'll be applying for permits on the structures soon :D

The city tries to encourage contractors to award contracts to 'Minority Business Owners' on projects...

I actually found that schedule on a site for a local Hispanic contractor association. They have since stopped posting the bid packages publicly on their site :(

I think they will make it when I see June '11 time lapse include the green grainy night vision camera work ;)

But I'm voting yes on naive and hopeful faith.

Turns out they aren't going to request the county to pay the portion necessary to get the $25MM from the State, they're going to pay it out of pocket.

A nice side effect of this Major Events Trust Fund thing is the State comptroller is actually going to determine the economic impact of the race after it's over to make sure they captured enough new taxes to cover the money put in :)

I'm confused. $4M comes from the county and the other $21M comes from the state? So Tavo puts up the $4M for the county to get the $21 from the state? Do I have this right???

Seems likely Tavo et al know they have a problem getting the votes to get the county to pony up $4M. Not surprising in todays times.

The real question at this point becomes,... how much money does the Tavo Group have left? Seems safe to bet they $4M... but do they need the $21M to keep going?

One thing for sure, in a $200-400M project,... $21M wont last long.

The State matches local contributions at a ratio of 1:6.25.

If they are getting $25MM from the State, that means Travis county would have to come up with $4MM to qualify for the full amount. Guess the promoters are going to pay this

They can't use the money to build infrastructure. Only service debt, build temp facilities (like grandstands), and pay fees to a sanctioning body. So none of the State money is going to be used for construction.

They have to wait till less than a year away from the event to apply for the $$, which from the schedule would put them applying for it next Thursday at the earliest.

Ben, that link doesn't work. Gotta be logged in...?!

Here's a shot from today. Not mine, but a buddy of mine took a tour of the place with a car group today. I couldn't get out of the office to go.

This is looking from turn 1.
