The most annoying times are when cars pull up REAL close behind you to take pictures! I am talking so close that you are praying the car in front of you doesn't do something stupid where you will have to brake, until you can pass it and disappear!!

I get a lot of Corvette people waving at me too as they pass by!!?? I always wondered if they thought I was driving a Corvette, or they knew it is a Ferrari 360??!!

You guys get the Corvette wave too??

I had some guy in an old Maxda MX6 try to force his way in front of me so that he could make it to the on-ramp first. It didn't quite work-out the way he intended -- I made it to the on-ramp first, and I flew around the on-ramp and onto the highway. In my rearview mirror I could see that he was struggling with the ramp and once he made it onto the highway, he was limping along at some ridiculously slow speed with everybody overtaking him. I think he blew-up his engine!! I did feel sorry for the guy but it still makes me chuckle when I think about it.

pulled up to starbucks last week - parked behind a city cop as he was getting out of the car. had a little small talk etc - he told me he had a corvette, so we chatted a bit more in line. anyway, he finally says, "hey, if we trade cars we can both drive fast - I'll be in uniform on duty, and you will be in a cop car "

    it was pretty funny.

    nice guy and attitude,

For all you youngsters, in the olden days the drivers of just about all sports cars waved to each other. There were not too many of us, so it was the comradely thing to do. Now it seems only the Corvette and Porsche drivers do it, and the Corvette drivers (I owned 10 of them) are more congenial and wave to just about any sporty car except Mustangs. A local Cayman driver and I exchange waves and the Boxster and Cayman drivers act friendlier than the 911 drivers. 911 drivers hate not being top dog, I guess.

My first experience with someone acting really inappropriate was in the 70s when I had a Dino 246 GT in Clovis, NM. Just before you hit the gate at Cannon AFB, there was an exit and a fairly tight 270 degree turn leading to the base. A black Trans-Am with full gold trim, including the bird, had been plagueing me for a couple of miles, following too closely. I hit that exit with nobody in front and took the corner at a comfortable speed for the Dino. The Trans-Am stuck close until the turn tightened and as I glanced in the mirror, the car swapped ends and spun vigorously off the road. Never did see what happened to his car, but it was upright so I continued. Never saw the car again after that.

So far, the 430 gets tons of cellphone pics just about everytime it is on the road. No jerks yet, but I'm sure it's coming. I used to have a 308 QV and while stopped at a light a couple of guys in a contractor truck yelled out, "Everything is ok now that Magnum's on the case!" That made me laugh and my wife thought it was hilarious.

Yes. Most Porsche drivers wave or flash when I am in the Boxster S. They never wave when I am in the 360. Same people. It's a small town. And we have many Pcars here. Fcars are still rare.

I remember when I was waiting for someone at the airport with the 360. A young city policeman came over and started to chat. He asked: how fast have you been in that thing? I replied: 140 (and was careful to add) on the race track. He was a very nice guy and said he hoped to own one some day.

    Life is good.

I have a 360 spider and other than the fact that everyone wants to race, we get pictures taken al the time, and if there is an oportunity for any conversation the classic questions are:
    Is it a real Ferrari?
How fast have you driven it?
    How much did it cost?
    What year is it?
    Can I sit in it?

A less common question but have been asked at least 3 times is:
    is it a lamborghini?

And a very annoying statement is:
oh its a ferrari? I thought it was a corvette...
Fortunatly it has only happened once

On the part of waiving to other sport cars, a regularly wave to them EXCEPT MUSTANGS!!!
My daily driver is a Corvette and it bacame a custom. I even waived at a guy driving a KIA with Ferrari shields.

I mostly get positive responses from people, lots of thumbs up and smiling faces. And lots of people who wants to race. I never take them up it could end in tears in so many ways.

I gladly oblige when someone wants me to rev. One thing that I cant understand is that some people treat me as if I and the car is invisible, it mostly happens when I wash the car and someone in a jap-car or BMW or Audi with a young driver drive up to the washbox next to me.
Then they aboslutely ignore the car. In Sweden its called the Royal Swedish Envy

I've only recently discovered this website, though I've owned my (1st Ferrari) 360 Spider for about 5 months now.

I was surprised at how the Ferrari seems to be a psychological test to many people...

    - 911 drivers carefully pretend you don't exist.

    - Mustangs like to race up beside you, hoping they're going to embarrass you. A quick bust of speed in 2nd or 3rd usually ends that hope.

    - Lots of cameras and cellphone cameras follow you as you drive by.
There is a FerrariChat thread for the local Ferrari spotters, and I went through all the postings since I had bought the car, and sure enough, there was a pic of me driving by a few months ago...

    - Certain very attractive young women seem especially captivated...

    - One grumpy old guy at a gas station asked what year the 360 was, and then when he drove away, he put his old American car that he was driving into neutral, floored it, then jumped it back into gear, and peeled off in a cloud of engine oil smoke...

    - Most people look approvingly and appreciatively at the beautiful car.

    - When parked in public, a lot of people like to look into the glass covered engine hood.

    - Most drivers give you a bit more room. Either they're afraid to hit you, or want better viewing room.

    - I drove unawares by the beach-side parking-lot meeting of lowered Hondas and chromed Toyotas and blackened window BMW's. As I went by in 1st gear at 6000 rpm, everyone watches the Ferrari and forgets the modified sedans.

    - The older guys in their collector cars always smile and wave (and so do I). They know what it means to drive the car you've always wanted.

    - Traffic control staff always smile, and usually radio ahead to the next crew member to check out the car coming through.

    - Cops often wave... That one surprised me. I guess Ferrari owners aren't famous for being idiot drivers.

    - A pick-up truck that decided he was faster than a Ferrari, charged past me on a downhill curve 2-lane section of road, where at the bottom (out of sight) is usually a radar trap, and right into the clutches of the cops he went. I cruised by at the speed limit, with a big grin.

    - Several times now guys on very powerful sport bikes will tail me for a while. I usually do a quick scream up to 7500 rpm, and they seem happy with that...

    - I usually drive the speed limit exactly, I'm in no hurry, and only driving for fun. Maybe that annoys the others because you have the car, and the time to enjoy it.

    - My favourite drive was behind an Enzo, as part of a 20 car group of Ferrari/Maserati heading out to the track, and going by ALL the traffic heading into town on their way to work, looking staring slack-jawed at the procession. Very cool. A lot of cameras and cell phones that day. Plus the usual wannabees cutting into the line for no reason.

I bought it to have fun driving, and that's what it has certainly been!

I think that is the case most of the time. They are just being playful.

I used to get the people driving in blind spots to stare. Now, since the advent of the ubiquitous cell phone camera, I get blinded by flashes when driving at night.

    Too funny, RandomGuy!

In my 328 GTS, I had the following:

    1) Chicks flashing me -- some of them, I wish they hadn't but most of the flashers had some real nice girls.

    2) A guy running up to my passenger door trying to hop in.

    3) A red-neck passenger in a pick-up truck spat at my way and flipped me off on the way to the winery.

    4) I was parked in front of PG&E in downtown SF picking up my mother, and a guy crossing in front of me, while I'm sitting in the Ferrari, says, "Excuse me, but your penis is in the way." I get out of my car, and I say, "You can look, but you can't touch." He flipped me off and walked away.

    5) Of course, people shooting photos of me while driving; pedestrians shooting photos; thumbs up and all that other stuff that's par for the course.

    6) SFPD pulls me over for speeding on Union Street in SF. A few pedestrians take out their phones and shoots pictures. The SFPD Officers asks, "Does this happen to you all the time?" I respond, "What -- the pictures or the tickets?" He chuckles; I sign the ticket, and he says, "Enjoy your ride." I respond, "Thanks, officer -- have a good day."

In my F430, I had the following:

    1) Same as #5.

    2) Woman's business card on my wind-screen.

    3) Man's business card on my wind-screen that had the following, "Hi handsome -- drink some time?"

    4) While in Willow Springs, CA, on my way back to SF from Seattle after purchasing my F-430, a red-neck gas attendant, at 0200 hours PDT, 2-June-2011, said, "F****** chinaman -- think y'all hot in that fancy car of yours?"

I responded, "Is that all you can come up with -- 'chinaman'? -- I ran as a Republican in San Francisco; I've been treated by the public and the press a helluva lot worse -- it's gonna take a lot more that what you've got to piss me off...boy." I walked away and drove to another gas station.

    5) Toyota Prius: "Hey, ******* -- you like killing our earth?" My response, "I just wanted to thank you for driving a Prius -- all the gas you save, is more gas I can use for my Ferrari -- thank you for thinking of me!" He flipped me off and drove away.

That's all for now -- going for a ride today, 7-June-2011 -- let's see all the stuff that comes my way today.

    Check 6.

    /s/ Alfonso

I don't own a Ferrari, I'm only 19; but here are a few stories of mine.

My freshman year of high school, I went on a four-day honors Biology field trip to Monterey, CA. One day, we went to the Monterey Bay Aquarium. We were split into groups (about 30 students total; six groups with five students in them plus one teacher as a guide. My group was one of the first that completed the tour of the aquarium and we went outside in the front to wait for the other groups. As we were waiting, a yellow Ferrari 360 Spider pulls up next to where our group was standing. I said, "FERRARI!!!!!" My teacher (a biology teacher who drove a Honda Insight) said, "psh....what a waste of money."

Also, I was riding in my good friend's Ferrari California when he first got it a few months ago. We went out for a long spirited drive. We pulled up next to a stop-light and a truck pulled up next to us. Both the drivers window and the driver's side rear window rolled down. The driver said to his son (who was sitting in the back seat...about 9 or 10 years old) "Look at the Ferrari!" The kid smiled and asked, "Can you wev it?" My friend smiled and gave him a couple good "wevs." It was underneath an over-pass so it echoed pretty well. The look on their faces brought a smile to my face.

    :)

I get a lot of revs at the lights...i rarely engage in racing though...lots of thumbs ups, i heard some one on sunday say, "look at that lambo" I also heard a young boy say to his parents, "is that an aston martin", and I think it was his mom who replied, "no I think it is a Ferrari".

I get the camera phones constantly..The longer post above mentions how cars give him more room. I get the exact opposite. Tailgaters galore. I think its a function of others wanting to see the car up closer. It bothers me a lot in the sense that if I were to brake hard to avoid something they would most likely hit me.

The other day filling up the attendant was Turkish. He was giggling like a school girl when I pulled in. He almost didn't want me to leave. He explained to me that in his country they are pretty rare and that you have to be RICH to own one. I laughed and left shortly after.

Filling up the 360 with gas yesterday, wife is sitting in the passenger seat, a suv pulls up, a hot little 18 year oldish girl jumps out of the suv, runs over and poses next to the car while her friend takes some pictures... my wife who was obviously in the pictures says... "my name is Ginger, tell your friends the girl in the picture with you is your bestie"... haha, the girl said ok and hopped back in her suv and drove off...

D360 and ASF - great posts! Can relate to most of what you mentioned. Two rather strange things I've noticed:

    1. While driving my 360 in SoCal, mostly thru Malibu mountains, got a lot of angry/very type A behavior from other drivers. Think it had to do with the fact that I had out of state plates on the car (FL), maybe they resented that. Or maybe that it was in most places - except on empty roads where I was the only on on the road - I was driving near the speed limit. Had one nice mom in an SUV on my ass all the way thru Calabassas (very rich area), when I turned off, she flipped me off b/c I was doing 'only' the speed limit.

    2. I also own an orange 350z roadster with orange/black seats, nice wheels, and a high-flow exhaust system that gives it a nice throaty growl (although nothing like the 360 with tubi/kinetix). That 350z gets MORE COMPLIMENTS, by far, than an other car I've owned. Much more than the 360. Everywhere I take it, compliments, people want photos with it. From 80-year-old ladies (lots of those in FL) to the hot teenage girls working at the ice cream place. Guys, too. I am simply flabbergasted every time I go out in that car, the number of compliments it gets and from such a variety of ages.

I think this has to do with the fact that, subconsciously, many people resent me as a Ferrari owner, thinking I must somehow be stuck-up or a prick, and b/c they will likely never be able to purchase one. With the Z, however, it's priced as an everyman's car, and more people can relate to that and think I must be approachable.

Amazing the difference in how you're perceived simply based on what car you step out of.

Driving my 328 with my business partner. We're both in our 30's minding our business doing roughly the speedlimit when an older SUV pulls up next to us and a hot young girl leans out and yells, "Faaaags!". Then they sped off.

I still laugh about how incredibly funny that is.

how is miami vice ***s?? haha

and for the 350z i can relate to that very much so with my right hand drive nissan 240sx.
It is like if you drive around in it, then drive around in the ferrari it will be okay cause they saw you in the Z first. And say he just loves his cars.. but if you were to drive around in the ferrari no one would believe you have a 350z cause "those" types of people buy a ferrari cause we done mess with the "japanese" cars so they think those people have something to prove to the exotic crowd. Thanks to fast and furious and grand turismo..
