Ok, I am going to pass on the GTS with poor compression numbers. Looking at my friends Spider tomorrow and I could pull the trigger if it floats my boat. Thanks to everyone here for the advise.

Your 355 with 70+K miles has compression ALL above 200??

Let's see some pictures of that compression gauge...

I have heard of compression higher than 200psi, but I have never seen it for myself. All my cars can reach 180-190 max, and that is 6 cars of various ages.

I've never seen a 70K 355 with compression over 180 in every single cylinder- I did look at a few high mileage 355's before I bought my 30K 355- I'm sure they exist but I doubt there is a 355 engine on the planet that makes it to 75k with compression approaching 210... But I'd love to be proved wrong.

If memory serves, my engine was 190-210 with only 2-3% leak down. Of course it had a $25k repair a few years back - so, much work was done to make it factory fresh. We redid the checks durin the engine out 6 months ago and the numbers hadn't budged.

You have a great F355, Rick. And well-deserved, due to the owner. :)

Your taste in 355's sound similar to mine in that you really want a GTS.

Wait and be patient for the right one. It's easy to get a better condition spyder or berlinetta and move on but you know the first time you see a nice GTS your gonna wish you'd waited for the right one. When that first five fiqure repair bill gets paid and you look over at your GTB or Spyder sitting there like a bad dog you just had to pay to get out of the pound your going to again wish you'd spent the money on the car your heart really desired all the time. Buying these cars is an irrational and financially unsound endeavor so don't waste that irrationality on the car you almost want.

At the end of the day buy the best car possible for the best price. It shouldn't matter if it is a GTS, Spyder, or Berlinetta. By best car I mean all service records, no accidents, LOW MILES, no story cars, and of course all services up to date.

One of these days YOUR car will be for sale and if it isn't what I just described you won't be a happy camper when trying to sell it.

I have had my heart set on a '95 GTS since I was a teeneager but I don't feel any less love for my '97 GTB. I love the look of both the GTB and GTS (top on or off) but in the end the $10K difference and possible issues with creaks/leaks steered me towards the Berlinetta. If I'm dying for the targa experience I just jump in my wife's C6. ;)
I never cionsidered a Spider as I feel the look of the car is much less appealing withouth that beautiful rear window and butresses. IMHO of course.

As others have said, buy the one that speaks to you and don't look back.
