The sound of that car is what pretty much sold me on buying my own 308. Turns out after buying mine I met and have gotten to know the gent who owned it at the time that video was shot. He has since been through a couple other Fcars by the way!!
Love the sound in that video, watched it many times and the guy who owned the car is an fchatter. But just an FYI to anyone going to the dyno, hammering it up through the gears is a real bad idea. You can see the strain on the straps every time he shifts, so just imagine what would happen if one came loose (it can and has happened!). You should accelerate slowly and gently, shifting very quietly, until you get into 4th at about 1500rpm, letting the dyno get a stable reading. Then when the dyno guy is ready, floor it and hold steady until redline, then back off and let it coast down before taking it out of gear. Be safe!
The guys at this dyno place are top notch. The runs like you saw in this video are usually done after several standard HP runs like you are talking about. Believe me they take every precaution needed. I've even seen them install heavy duty chains for high HP cars.
So, which FChatter owned this car?? Was it you JDubbya?? What were the dyno results? I am curious because this is almost exactly the setup I have on my QV. My guess would put it at around 190 rwhp or so. But I love the sound.... PDG
He has lightweight BBS wheels on it which have probably knocked a good amount of rotating mass from the hubs. The numbers are probably a bit higher because of this.
If my misrememberer is functioning properly, it was Gary Reed - I think he has a Boxer these days. And FWIW I would never do a run like that, no matter if they tied shipping hawsers to the car. It only takes one weak link. Still a very cool video to watch.
Yep, it was Gary http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=260596 I saw this car for sale locally when I started looking in 2009. This was before I saw the video a few months later. I think he sold that car in 2003 and it seems like it's been around the block a few times since. Gary has a 550 nowadays.
