Doing my head in. Have always had Rossa Corsa (on my 360 and 430), but I got up close and personal with the 458 in Black and its simply amazing. Seems far more aggressive and shows the lines extremely well.

    Whats the general opinion?

Tough decision that could go either way.

Personally, I like the look of black cars but live in a very warm and dusty climate. They always look dirty to me even after being washed and black just isn't a good color for hot regions for obvious reasons.

Honestly, I don't think you can go wrong with either choice as far as looks. It's more of a lifestyle and enviromental issue to me.

I had a Black Corvette back in the 80's and by no means am I comparing it with Ferrari black, but the car absolutely looked stunning..........for 5 minutes!

What about other shades of red if you don't want Rosso Corsa. Rosso Scuderia or Fuoco? I just think black hides all the nice details, including the curves and air intakes.

Jon- New Rosso Maranello paint introduced on the FF, too. Looks great in photos.

But what do I know, mine if boring old Rosso Corsa. Highly recommended and the painters have that color down pretty well.

It"s the most difficult to keep clean all the SUV"s I have had are black currently I have the Black Jeep SRT8 and I just ordered a 2012 Black Jeep SRT8.The SUV's are more forgiving. The Black 458 looks dynamite but it's a pain and is not forgiving the reason I know this is I originally wanted the black 458 and ended up with Rosso corsa same issue you have
Black is cool spider webs, claying, washing, even the detailer has to know how to wash black.

Agree that keeping it clean will be a pain, but when clean it just looks so darn good. Will have to go and study the Rossa Corsa next to Black and take my time over it. I saw the FF today in the Rossa Maranello which was stunning but really need to see the 458 in Rossa Maranello.

Have you never heard the golden rule: Never buy a Ferrari in red...

Rosso Corsa you can never go wrong. I had it on a 360 and 430. Yesterday I drove a Rosso Scuderia and fell for it over the Corsa. If I had to make the decision off a paint sample, I think I would have made the safe choice...Corsa. I was slightly tempted by yellow as I had one on a prior 430 and really liked it.

Also, black cars are notorious for getting swirl marks after washing. You have to really use a proper washing technique, otherwise your black car will - as another forum member said so well - look good for only about the first 5 minutes.

Just got back from 2 hours with the Ferrari Club (breakfast run). Besides one bad off (guy cornered too fast and went over a steep embankment) the weather was drizzling and cold. Very true about black. The black 458 really did not look great after the morning run. All the Rosso cars looked ok.

Might just need to go practical.

These types of generalities about ALL black cars are simply incorrect. Swirls, scratches, etc are a function of the paint HARDNESS, not its color. Any soft paint will mar easily no matter the color. Harder paints, like those on the 458, require a lot more that just a washing before they exhibit swirls.

There are tons of detailer threads about the 458 and they consistently comment on the paint's hardness and the fact that most of them are delivered with very poorly finished paint jobs (which a good detailer can correct).

It's a great driver's car. Might as well pick a finish that wouldn't deter you from driving it (personally, I dislike driving a dirty looking car, much less a dirty looking Ferrari).

it seems that drivers in front of me are more eager to go out of my way when driving on highway a red Ferrari than when driving a black one...

Jon, what about Silverstone? It would be my first choice - after the compulsory red for the first Ferrari.

Jon, I'm very happy with the Corsa but I sense you are looking for a change. Red does suffer from the "cliche" issue.

Cliche isnt a terrible thing, especially when it comes to the 458. For some reason the red still stirs the soul for most people. I have to say though i love the dark gray metallics and even though my first choice was white, i decided to try something different than what i normally go for and do Rosso Corsa.

There is an element of that but its like when you go to your favorite restaurant and you are determined to try something different on the menu. When the waiter arrives " you just cant do it" :)

i have owned 2 black 430's. i have had no trouble keeping them clean. i wash my vehicles by hand and there are no swirl marks in the paint.
that being said, i am thinking of getting a white 458!
i prefer black and white to red.

Go the Black ,i will post when the Rosso is fixed and back a picture of them them in garage next to each other .In my opinion the darker colour is mean looking , i went giogio ,dark wheels ,dark tint ,black inside .The only thing i would change would to be get race seats and carbon steering wheel .
