FCA Ottawa Ferrari Festival 2011

Can't be at the track today but looking forward to a great weekend on Preston. I'll be there with a budy representing the "other" Italian make. We'll have two amost identical red Diablos there.

Hey Pete, will your Diablo be on Preston street tonight for display?

 

Just got back from Preston street, great weather today.

Plenty of cars on display, 308/328/348's, Testarossa's, all variations of 360's, F430's, a California, even a black 599 GTB with a parking ticket. Ferrari of Ontario was also there with a 458 Challenge, Alfa 8C and Maserati GranTurismo. (Hoping the Challenge will be at the speed zone on Saturday)

The real treat however is the older Fiats, Alfa Romeos and Maseratis. Also a beautifully done replica of a 250 GTO that I believe was made from all Ferrari parts. My personal favourite of the day was a Lancia HF Fulvia and an Alfa 2000 Spider.

Pete, saw the two Diablos aswell, a bit suprised they were the only two Lambos at the event. Gorgeous car you have there. Does one of them have an aftermarket wing?

Looking forward to the speed zone demo tommorow.

 

Was the 250 GTO on Preston St. a replica? I couldn't see anything "wrong" with it (unlike, say, the "250 GTO" I saw at the 2007 Woodward Dream Cruise in suburban Detroit that still had the Mercury Cougar logo on the seats). I know the Ottawa FCA tends to eschew replicas from its activities, but I figured they might make an exception for well-done replicas of super rare classics. I guess if it's made from "Ferrari parts", at least I'm secure in the knowledge that I wasn't taking photos of an undercover Fiero.

Also, I'm sad that I missed the California on Friday. I got there quite late on Friday evening and got some photos, but I kept on being shooed away by the security kids because of that parade with the flag throwers. I didn't see the California at the Demonstration Zone on Saturday. :-(

 

Also, I wish that red Countach that was just behind the 250 GTO in the parade at the end of the Demonstration Zone event would have done a few laps earlier. I wasn't prepared to see it and only got a couple of shots of it in the background of shots of the 250 GTO.

 

Hi All!

Got down to Preston St Saturday for the Italian Sports Car Parade and Demo Zone. The cars were amazing, Fiats, Lancias, Alfas, Lambos, Ducatis and Ferraris! There was even a replica 250 GTO which was well done (based on a corvette). Here are some pics in no particular order from the day! I even bought a "Little" Ferrari at a garage sale on Preston before getting my coffee!! I am tempted by the Afla on sale at $18,000.

Dream rides on Sunday 9-12 at St Anthony's soccer club or the CIBC (Preston & Carling) - not too sure of which location!

The Italians Car Club of Ottawa had another great display as part of Italian week and The Ferrari festival! Here are some pics in no particular order - tempted by the Alfa @ $18,000! Even local Porsches, NSX's,Vipers and Corvettes showed up!! And a Black 458 drove by!!

I saw that metallic blue 308 a few times around Preston the last 2 days. I wish it had taken part in the Demonstration Zone, I love seeing 308's in colours other than the "standard" red, yellow, or black.

^ I saw the black 458 Italia several times. I don't think the owner is a member of the Ottawa FCA, but it was a nice bonus seeing him hoon around up and down Preston, especially considering the 458 Italia Challenge car that Ferrari of Ontario brought was just sitting there all weekend, so I never got a chance to photograph that one in motion.

Man, I was on Preston all day Friday and Saturday and didn't see that 458. However, anyone catch the black 599 GTB on one of the side streets with a parking ticket? I wonder why it wasn't just parked on display with the rest of the F-cars.

Spoke to several really nice owners, especially the owner of the red Diablo VT in the video above. None of my buddies are car guys so it's pretty rare when I get to have a face to face conversation with people who know what they're talking about. It's my favourite part of the show.

Thanks to all the owners that came out, especially Mark in the Diablo VT and the owner of a red Challenge Stradale who's name I can't remember at the moment. It's guys like you that make the car community what it is.

 

I saw two 599 GTB's on the weekend, the black one (didn't see the ticket) and a red one parked outside Frank's Auto Centre on Friday evening. I wonder why neither owner participated too, the Fiorano is one kind of Ferrari that's been sorely missing from the official events the past few years.

EDIT: Never mind about the second one, upon further examination, it's the Ferrari California that I thought I hadn't spotted at all. I'm not sure how I could've mistaken it for a 599.

EDIT 2: Also, upon further examination, there is something under the windshield wiper of the black 599 Fiorano on the photos I took on Friday evening. Guess it could be a parking ticket, but I can't see any details on it.

I would simply like to take this opportunity to publicly thank Giuseppe (Pepe) Castrucci and all of the FCA Ottawa committee for an amazing 2011 Ottawa Ferrari Festival!!

I can't think of one thing to improve for next year.

Lunch at the Italian Ambassador's was very validating and added much class and distinction.

How much fun was the Speed Zone? GREAT FUN!! Considering you coaxed a wuss like me do do a few laps....and I enjoyed it!!!

Deciding to forgo the after-supper activities for the Saturday evening dinner, and allowing the guests to enjoy the festival happening on Preston was a classic example of keeping it simple.

Lastly, not throwing us (and our wives) out of bed to start our morning activities before 9:30AM was also much appreciated.

The only moot point (for me personally) was not seeing more folks from Montreal. They truly missed a world class event!!!

I reached my image limit for this site a couple of years ago, but, if anyone wants to see the Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano with what may or may not be a parking ticket under the windshield wiper, here's one of my shots. (Could be a ticket, could be a flyer for a pizza place.)

 

City of Ottawa ticket - there is no parking spot on that corner for 3-5 hours!!

^ I can plead ignorance, I don't have a car so I don't have to worry about parking tickets and, as such, don't know what they look like.

 

599 is own by Nino the owner of Giovanni Resturant there no parking ticket he owns the corner, )

 

Well I read a City of Ottawa ticket on it Friday night! As I said to my friend Friday night: it's a big ol' 599 with a big ol' Parkin Ticket on it. Must of made the parking watchdogs day ticketing a Ferrari!

Here are some pics I took at the dream ride on Sunday. It was delayed a bit at the start as Ferrari of Ontario was loading up their transport with the 458, Alfa 8C and the Grandsport to return home. No one seemed to mind this delay as they revved up the 458!! And it was amazing how they fit them into such a tight trailer!! Someone even showed up with a beautiful corvette! A great charity event that put a smile on everyone's face on Father's Day!

Well Said Bernie! This event takes lots of time to plan and here are my final 3 pictures to post!

First is Guiseppe Castrucci former president of the FCA Ottawa chapter and Co-Ordinator of the festival. If I know Peppe, he is already planning the 2012 event!

Second is Domenic Ricci of Villa Marconi who co-ordinates the Dream ride Ticket sales and works very hard on a Sunday to put smiles on Everyones faces.

And finally is Dave Harding. He co-ordinates all the blue shirt High school volunteers who watch over the cars during the entire festival to give the owners piece-of-mind that their cars are safe. Driving a cube van full of concrete blocks, ropes, steel poles and volunteers in and out of the Ferraris is not for everyone and Dave does it best!

Thanks guys for making Ottawa a better place to live!
