GTO brake squeal?

    My car is 2 months old now and yesterday the brakes started to squeal. It was during a run of Alpine mountain passes but not the first time I've driven this route.

    There isn't any noticeable change in brake performance just this slightly annoying noise.

    I'll ask the dealer to look but thought I'd ask here first?

    I've not experienced this malady per se, but have noted various articles from the major motoring articles have mentioned this as possibility with second gen carbon ceramics.

    I had the same thing last year after tracking my car at Francorchamps and using the brakes very hard. This went away after about 1 week and driving the car "under normal conditions".

    Tracked my GTO yesterday at Spa and ... same thing in the afternoon. While driving home last night it noticed that it started to get better again. No loss of performance but only this "grinding noise". My dealer was present at the track and checked the brake pads. All was OK. I don't think it is something you need to worry much about but would double check with the dealer just to be sure.

    Did 300 km at Spa yesterday in very, very wet conditions. What a blast to drive the GTO. My HGTE was virtually undriveable in the conditions we had but the GTO was a lot of fun. Great balance, great feel for what the car is doing ... wonderful experience. An ex F1 driver drove my car for a couple of laps with me in the passenger seat and he was very, very impressed with the GTO. I'll post some more impressions when I have more time. But all I can say is ... Clarkson ... what you wrote about the GTO in the rain out on track is BS!

    M, very impressed with your thoughts about driving in the wet. I really haven't had that opportunity yet. But its nice to know that rumors about the GTO being difficult to drive in the wet are totaly unfounded......By the way, IMOH Clarkson's opinions mean very little in the real world. On the other hand, owners opinions based on real driving experience are invaluable.

    Next time you wash the car, hose out the dust from the brake calipers and give that a try. ;);)

    Indeed. If there is one thing Clarkson is right about, it's the fact that the GTO is not a show-drifter's car. The car always comes back in a rather aggressive way but can be controlled. Never had any "Cato" situations as he tends to call it. Very hard to come out of a drift in a "elegant way" though. The HGTE is better suited for that. All the rest he said I call BS.

    I've had the same brake problem after trackdays.
    One of the Ferrari engineers literally told me to powerhose the brakes, then do it again, and again

    This solved the problem - it must be due to some sort of build up of residue when the brakes get really hot

    Very good to hear.

    And yep, brake dust build up between the pad and rotors. Washing the dust out EVERY day would be nice, but not everyone washes their cars everyday.

    So............everytime you wash the car will suffice till it stops squealing.

    I had new pads fitted to the rear of my 348 when I bought the car. They squealed like a pig for a while afterwards. I kept cleaning them out everytime I washed the car and they eventually come good. :)
