I was hoping the stickies could contain all of that information. Constantly-evolving posts, being edited and updated as more and more information becomes available.

I had in my mind a single forum for all models, but now that you mention this it might be best. I think we should start it like this and someday we can decide to put them in a single forum. thanks! see, this wasn't all that hard. ;)

back to what I said in the past we should have a template format for each models master post. so we should talk about that a little before we kick this off. I can get the threads started and initial info. I will think about something like a "model master" user that will have access to modify these threads and the master post. In this case a single forum for all models would work better as easier to make several people a "model mod" of just that forum instead of 1-2 people for each model section.

the only problem I see is the Vintage forum where there are SOO many models, maybe just for Vintage have a subforum for all the models?

Would it work if the sticky thread was open for all users to post in, but the Model Master was the only one with the authority to modify Post #1, which would constitute the definitive guide? Then people could chime in with suggestions for new information and where to incorporate it into the guide for the Model Master to add. :)

One thought though... does vB have character limits for single posts? That might get difficult if we start hitting those for Post #1. Perhaps start the thread off with 10 blank posts so there's room to later expand into if necessary?

    All the best,
    Andrew.

put it this way, I give your suggestion an A+ and think it’s great, but we have bigger fish to fry. being a 1 man show I have to focus most of my energy on day to day stuff, any "enhancements" have to be cost effective and efficient with little risk, the answer then is usually "off the shelf". no offense to you, just the way it is. FYI there are communities on vB 3/PHP and MySQL that are 10x larger than FerrariChat working perfect.

there are some future search enhancements we can do if moving to vB 4, but putting that off as long as possible. our demographics here HATE change. :)

Pardon me, I shouldn't have said that, and I do understand about upgrades, and working within the strictures of phpBB, it's still the best out there for what it does, and my suggestions seem now to be pretty demanding on the search-sort criteria. Thanks for the conciliatory remarks, I stand humbled at the gracious response.

Just found this thread and haven't read through it yet but I'd love to see mods and/or users
edit thread titles to ensure they are meaningful.

    teach a person to fish...

anyway, every new user in the welcome email has line item about good titles. most experienced users have it figured out.

mods do go back and edit them, but with over 500 new threads a day it is hard.

I personally won't even give threads a chance if they have a bad title, my attitude is if the title is that bad, then I'm not going to waste my time with the thread and give author the respect of me reading it. :)

our forum does have the feature where you can preview the first few sentences of a thread just by mousing over the title.

Okay, but who makes the call as to whether someone is on the money or full of crap? State exhibit #1 is the Ernie / Dave Helms throw down.

I know how I would rule in this specific case, but are you prepared to pick one and leave the other behind?
