happy monday gentlemen,,,,i stopped by fast cars today...i wanted to speak to craig about installing a new had unit and sub woofer in the 328 ., as well as getting my targa top painted the color of the car,,as always,,,,he lets me drool over all the cars in the shop,,and the mechanics are always happy to chat with me for a bit,,,anyways,,,they had a 512 TR..red on tan in the shop,,,and boy did it look great....francisco popped the engine cover so i could take a look (seen them many times,,cant stop looking ),,,really cool....from what i have been hearing,,,these cars are pretty reliable,,and the 30k s run the same as a 355,,,the tail light set up was with the round tailights,,,im not sure if those are factory on the TR ..or a replacment kit....francisco said they were a kit,,,,maybe the 512 m had the round lights,,anyways..for me ,..it would be awfully hard to decide on this car or a 355,,i know some people say they are dated...but not to me.,.and they still have that 308/328/348 type of interior,,i love the gauges and steering wheel..and a flat 12 would be a good addition to a v8,,,looking at the car from behind...unbelievably insane,,,

Great cars. One of the all time best in looks, sound, performance, build, end of an era and all that. The round lights are not stock, but mimic the 'M' rear lights (which I like). Would be cool to hang the original on the wall for mood lighting in the garage.

The 512TR is too fun for words. You drive it, you'll want it. A superior machine and crowd pleaser too. Crazy about mine if you can't tell!

How would you compare it to your Boxer? Does it satisfy in the same manner, or is it a completely different beast?

Very different, and I'm not enough of an auto writer to verbalize it. A back to back drive should do it for you, but for ME, the TR is less 'sports' and a lot more 'gt'. The refinement - ride quality, fit and finish, interior room, ergonomics, hvac, lighting - is a good bit better.

The 512TR is also faster than you'd imagine, and stops like you threw out four perfectly behaving anchors. The Boxer did all its work, in its day, at the top of its game, but by the time the TR was 'finished' with the mid-flat 12 genre, the game had changed... alot.

Not sure if that helps. A ride in both would make it way more clear than this attempt!
