How do you check 3.2 Mondial gear box oil level

I noticed oil seeping from around the gear box, only needed tightened up around one corner.
Would like to check the level of oil just to be sure, is there any way possible of doing this with out a hydraulic ramp?

 

You can look at the center console. There is a warning light if it's low.

Alternatively there is a fill hole on the back of the transmission. You can open that bolt and if fluid is at the bottom of the hole you are good. Or stick your pinky in there and bend it downward to see if you touch fluid. Might be a bit tight without getting the car off the ground.

There is a fair amount of fluid in there. Unless you were getting oil spots the size of dinner plates you probably have plenty of fluid. How much was it leaking and for how long? If it's been a few years since it's been changed it is time to change anyway.

Youve put my mind at ease
It has been seaping for about 6 months, nothing major.
Just the odd drop on my garage floor, about the size of a coin.
I was worried if it was leaking badly whilst driving.
Belt service is due next summer, will change it then.

FWIW, changing the gearbox oil is a really simple job to do. Per Ferrari's recommendations, your gearbox oil should be changed at least every other year. I would argue more frequently if you are aren't driving your car sufficiently to properly warm up the gearbox.

Most mechanics will tell you these gearboxes are notorious for weeping a bit around the bolts, especially after the gearbox is warm. Many of them have been doing it since new. There are a few good threads on how to properly seal it.
