Now that's (or should be) the ex-Tony Iommi car. Colour looks good in photos, but is even better when you actually see it.[/QUOTE] Last night I watched an old (1968) video of Jethro Tull ... in which T. Iommi was the guitar player ! It's hard to believe that ragged guy owned a brand new Miura back then
He purchased his Miura a bit later than that, in the early 70s. Appearances can be deceptive. I can think of one client of mine with a fabulous collection who still looks like that today!
Tony was only in Jethro Tull for two weeks thankfully, and rejoined Black Sabbath. The rest is history! Was it the Rolling Stones Rock'n'Roll Circus you were watching, it's the only footage that exists as far as I know? The band (Black Sabbath) were still very poor until the money started to roll in probably around 1971 or 1972, and I'm guessing Tony bought the Miura around that time.
I read somewhere on the net that Tony Iommi had 2 Lamborghinis and a Rolls Royce parked on his drive in the seventies. Anyone know what the other one was, if he had any other supercars after the Miura and if he's still a Lamborghini owner today?

I have many years worth of magazine and music paper cuttings on Sabbath, but they are in the attic and it would take a long time to find that interview (assuming I had it). I was at Santa Pod back in the 70s/80s and thought I saw him driving an Espada in the car park, but it was a fair distance away and could just have been someone who looked like Iommi. Santa Pod wasn't too far away from where he lived at the time. Unfortunately I've never managed to verify this.
Don't worry, Sab. Ah, is this why you call yourself Sab after Black Sabbath? I'd only like to know if somebody knows off the top of their head without going to any trouble. No need for you to go up the attic ha ha.
I remember seeing that ad back then. I think it said the gearbox had been overhauled and described the colour as Duck Egg Blue.
Yes, old nickname from school days, I had various names, all combinations of the band's name, Sab is just the shortest! Just found this from an Iommi interview: "I started to get involved in different things. I got into cars, Rolls Royces, Lamborghinis, Ferraris. I think each of us had a Rolls Royce at that time." Unfortunately it doesn't clear things up!
miurasv, Looking at the Miura Register, have they got duplicate info for 4822 and 4830 (presumably your father's old SV? Elton (not confirmed), Chong & Robinson all apparently owners of both cars?
Yes, I saw that. To be honest I'm not certain of the chassis number of the car. What I do know is that it was DVLA registered in January, 1972 and not 1971 as says there too. The car was a factory RHD SV, white with gold wheels, sills and in the middle of the bonnet, full blue leather, 190mph speedometer with split sump and air conditioning. It doesn't say ac or GD next to the factory entry for 4830 in Joe's book. The registration plate on the car was NGM 100M when my father bought it from Steve Warby in January, 1976 until he sold it in April 1978. The M at the end of NGM 100M, as you know, would normally mean the car would have been new in August, 1973 at the earliest though it definitely said it was first registered in January, 1972 in the log book. The classified advert by Steve Warby in Autocar or Motor that I responded to when we bought the car said that it was ex Elton John. 4822 in the factory register shows a GD/Bianco/nero delivered to Morretino 12.10.73. The dealer, Malcolm Clarke, who bought the car from my father in 1978 said that Charlie Chong was the person who wanted the car. Strangely, the dealer also said that Charlie Chong had owned the car before and wanted it back. All very confusing.
That's odd, because you can't make a car appear younger than it actually is by giving it a "newer" plate. Was this in place back in the early 70s? As far as I know, it was. Can't work that one out.
You must have been able to back then as we also had a 1964 Ferrari 330GT 2+2 Series 1 with the registration SRL 484H which is a 1969-1970 H number. When new the car was on a B plate.
Yes ! the Rock & Roll Circus footage is awesome ! after Jethro's performance came one act formed by Lennon ,Richards & Clapton ( speaking of Italian exotica collectors ) by the way I love both Sabbath and Jethro but much prefer the latter ... I was born in the wrong time at the wrong country
Can anyone tell us if this is the correct shade of green ? Chassis number 4978 Image Unavailable, Please Login
Yes, you show it on my good fellow's SV, Yves from Monaco. As I'm replying from my French Riviera "retraite", I don't have my main hard disc to show detailled pics...
I'm not sure you understand the question. This car was painted a special color originally. Not Verde, or Verde Miura, but, "Verde Uccello de Mare 2465902". My question is, as the car exists today (repainted by the way), is it in this special color, or simply in Verde Miura (lime green) ??
Since there has been a discussion about Rod Stewart's Lamborghinis very recently, does anyone know if actor Peter Sellers owned a Miura or Miuras? I know that there were two Miuras that made a brief appearance, with Sellers, in an old UK film. Also, what about Britt Ekland, did she actually own any Lamborghinis?
Peter Sellers only son Michael Sellers was a member of the UK Lamborghini Club and owned a Urraco unfortunately Micheal died in 2006 at the age of 52,I met him a few times at club meetings and he told me who his father was and the cars he had owned, he did not mention any Miuras. Stephen Keen
Okay, thanks for that. I had wondered if the two Miuras in the film were his own cars as he was quite a collector apparently.
I have heard for years that he indeed owned a red Lamborghini Miura. In fact, in "The life and death of Peter Sellers" by Roger Lewis it is mentioned. Perhaps he only owned it for a short time, and surely he was not the type of man to share everything with his family. One thing is for sure, he adored cars, and he certainly owned several Ferraris. Regarding Britt Ekland, he did in fact buy her a Maserati Ghibli, canary yellow with black leather interior, as a present.
There was a documentary on Sellers 2 or 3 years ago but I can't recall any mention of Lamborghinis. Yes, he certainly adored his cars and he allegedly owned some for short periods of time. Stewart, John, Sellers and Ekland were all connected in one way or another back in those days.
