Another Miura Restoration finished up!

they say the Miura was inspired by the GT40 but ....

 

No harm done, it's a car and if it's what the owner wants it's not really anyone else's business.

 

Was the P400/S rear clam that was on the car modified to SV dimensions and shape or is it a whole new clam? Are new body sections available from Bertone and are you able to fabricate whole new body sections? If the rear clam is new, the original clam that was on the car could be restored and reattached and the headlight surrounds could be restored to S eyelash configuration. The original 7" rear wheels could be reattached too. I can't see that costing anywhere near $100,000.

 

OK, OK, $50,000. A concours paint job in CA is $30K right out of the gate, so we can start adding from that point. My comment was just hyperbole, really.

This guy in the UK is a lot more reasonable than $30k. He was recommended to me by the Ferrari Main Dealer in my city.

Am I the only who likes the smaller P400 all red tail lights better ?


we tend to like the most expensive regardless of it's look

before I learned the difference between S & SV
I used to like the red small tail lights and eyelashes more than the SV's

 

Here we are talking about a TRUE restoration ...

sometimes some cars which are restored look pristine before ....

 

I think the Miura only became perfect with the SV and it really did become absolutely perfect.

 

Someone can answer ?

 

The only one I know of that had GT40 type lights was 3012 that was for sale in Santa Monica, California in the late 90s, (see attached image), but it is a very early Miura and not an S, so I'll be interested to know as well.

I was born after Miura production stoped

maybe that explains why I don't see that much difference ....

I even prefer the ones with eyelashes and most distinctive all-red tail lights
these $ 8 000 tail lights look generic to me

 

All Miuras are beautiful. The only thing I don't like is the way the rear wheels don't fill out the arches on the pre SV cars.

 

I didn't see you at Le Belle Macchine this year? Had you been there you could have explained this in person to Mr Corolla ...

But let's face it. Just for removing the GT40 inspired mods a medal should be awarded here. What was the PO thinking?

 

Just to answer a few previous questions, the chassis number on this "S" is #3952, an original green/ tan car from new. It also now has 9" rear wheels, and all the metalwork was done at Bobileff Motorcar Company in San Diego, as well as all mechanical and cosmetics. Interestingly, when the car was finished, the present owner then wanted to have us transform the car into an SV look!

Yes, Bob, I was not able to make it this year. As you know, Adam had this same "S to fake SV" conversion/restoration done on the S I formerly owned (4515). So I am somewhat sensitive to this. I didn't trust myself not to heckle Adam while he was performing. Given he is a professional, he would have likely crucified me!

The car does look better without the GT40 mods, I agree. Just wish it had been returned to the car it was born as. I do agree -- Gary is the best and I would highly recommend him to do any Miura restoration. I hope he does get all of those fake ones back to restore to original specs. To me, it's just strange -- why would an owner want to create a fake car? You always have to explain it as such.

What was involved to get the "SV" look after the S was finished? Looking at the SV emblem in the picture posted, it looks like the letters have too much space in between them. Maybe an optical illusion?

As he said, he gets them coming and going. But even so, if the car does eventually get returned to original configuration how thrilled would you be about buying a Miura S that => GT40 treamtment => original Miura S restoration => Miura SV conversion => original Miura S restoration? Story? That's an epic saga. Timid compared to some vintage race cars though.

I didn't get to see his show. He spoke at the dinner and said that there were almost no tickets left so I figured why bother. No, I wouldn't advise heckling a professional comedian. He has the microphone and the stage. But you have the facts ...

 

Does the car have 7.5" wheels on it at the rear in the pictures?

 

This is very perplexing to me. Putting aside just an opinion that i think the narrow-
butt cars look better, doesn't this decrease the value? How popular is this mistake? How many have been "converted", anyone know?

 

The car has 9" wheels on the rears.
