Here we go with another crashed GTO, it is supposed to be the 4th crashed. Hopefully no injuries for the driver, the car crashed at high speed inside a racetrack.

The original GTO's were crashed all the time also. I don't see the big deal.

If you are afraid to drive it because it might crash, you shouldn't own it.

I agree that crashing is a part of racing and taking a half million dollar car and destroying the front end is easily forseeable. I won't race mine for this very reason. If you race your GTO you need to be prepared to pay the piper should you screw up. It is an incredibly fast and responsive car but it isn't a track car. No cage, no proper restraints ( here in the states) and a ridiculously expensive day at the track for this guy. S..t happens anytime you race. Too bad for whoever has to pay to fix it. Ouch.

You can build a car that will perform at the same level for $20k or less. Taking a 599 on the track in a situation that can result in this kind of damage kind of baffels me... Maybe if I had money out my ears I could understand but at this point I can't. Hope the owner is okay and that this car provides parts in the future for other Fcar owners.

The car was crashed at the Imola track on dry surface. The driver did not suffer any injuries.

Anyone can have an off in a powerful car. I don't know of a single supercar that hasn't been crashed by an owner. Pity, but that's life - and it won't be the last time a 599 GTO gets bumped.

Thus Black Mamba appears to be "1 of 595" now, since at this point, GTO's likely don't yet carry enough value to do a full body rebuild from a major shunt.

But its sad, however, as it was a very nicely done example which was being driven as it was meant to be used--

though to paraphrase Chris Harris in his EVO review last year, "it'll take big "nads" to muster a GTO hard around the track, as the penalty for even a small mistake, is very serious...."

May I suggest a "Crashed 599 GTO" thread, as to serve as a central location on Fchat for all 599 GTO wrecks? The concept here is not to satisfy some morbid fascination with wrecked GTO's, but serve as a log of sorts as to the recognizable cars and or numbers(VIN) that have been had a very bad day.

    Totally agree.

These cars were designed to be track weapons and we criticise so many people for never using their cars properly. The only proper place for an over powered car like this is on the track and I aplaude the owner for using it as it was intended.

It can be fixed, it is a new car ... parts are available. Fix it up and do it again :).

Glad to read that the driver is OK. Sad to see this beautiful GTO in the state it is now.

As for those who made comments like: "Why take a car like that out on the track"? or "He should have spent money on driving lessons", ... I find these to be inappropriate remarks. I'm sorry.

I know why he took his GTO out on track: for the same reason I and so many other owner's do it: because this car provides tons of driving pleasure on a track.

He should have spent money on driving lessons: Come on! Is he the first guy to crash a car out on track? What's the link here? OK. He made a mistake but does that automatically mean he can't drive? The GTO is a driver's car and needs to be handled with the respect it deserves at all times. An ex F1 driver took mine out on track and found it to be "one of the most exciting car's he has ever driven" but he also commented that she can get tricky. Maybe I should have told him to get out of my car immediately and sent him away with a couple of Euros to go take driving lessons because I realise that he crashed an F1 car one day on the track. That would mean he can't properly drive a car? Right?

To the owner: I feel bad this happened but I'm sure he knew what the risks are. Hope the car can be fixed and I applaud you for using the GTO!!! Hope to see this beauty out on the streets again soon.

    Best of luck.

Have you not noticed that these sort of comments together with "I cant believe the owned took the car out in the rain" always come from Americans :)

The 599 GTO is a detuned 599XX........ Basically a limited production racecar useable for the street. The GTO has a very addictive personality. The harder and faster you drive it the better the car feels and handles. Its an incredible rush thats almost impossible to describe. Accidents can and will happen even to very experienced drivers in a track weapon like the GTO.

    Not all of them...

As an aside my P 4/5 Competizione adventure has changed my opinion of Tracking a road car. I think if you do it occasionally on a Club day at 8/10Ths it's fine but more seriously than that can end in tears. Ceramic rotors can be destroyed by one off in the marbles as Ross found out not to mention the damage an off can do. Race cars can take a lot of abuse and aren't as easily damaged as road cars and are much safer in a shunt. I'm thinking of keeping our 430 GT2 for a track car instead of selling it. I like tracking but have come to believe that more than a mild club track jaunt isn't such a good idea in road cars.
