    OK, so I do love the iPad, mainly for flying as it eliminates all my paper charts. Its also cool when you don't want to lug a laptop around or watching movies. Apple products are expensive, note I didn't say overpriced because they still sell at those prices. The entire game of new version of iPhone, iPad, etc every 9 months is a winner for them, and confirms the millions of consumers are dumb sheep. Finally my iPad has to be rebooted 10x more than my laptop. That says a bunch considering the laptop runs hundreds of software programs that are self regulated to be compatible and work without problems on the PC, everything on the Apple is supposed to be bullet proof. :)

    I feel better now. ;)

    just got off tech support with Apple. It was a little bit of a wait, but I do have to say their voice recognition and routing was the best of any company call system and when I finally got a person he was helpful.

    Check this out though, this new cloud computing is going to be a pain in the butt for a little. You can no longer download many apps directly to your iPad like before until after you upgrade to OS 4. You will have to actually hard connect to your PC and go through iTunes which is actually a step back from cloud computing. I guess 1 step back to take 2 steps forward.

    Is this the reason you called support?...... I'd say something is awry there - In general, the thing just keeps going. [Albeit, my experience is limited and I don't have 3G - I wonder if the radio in the 3G version is anything to do with lockups?]

    Incidentally, and ex-Android users are particularly paranoid about it, are apps "running" in the background - Double tap the home button and all "running" apps show up in the task bar - Click & hold and they start to jiggle - Click the '-' button above the app you want to kill and it's gone. There are some who claim this helps with the reboot issue, others who claim it's all BS as iOS is too smart and the apps aren't really running..... But at the least it lets you see what's going on (stuff using location service seem particularly sticky for example.)

    I don't believe that's true - But could be wrong! A combination of iTunes, "iTunes in the cloud" and the app store is going to be the heart of it, and will allow all devices to sync with each other, re-download previously purchased stuff and so on - Even OS 10.7 (Lion) is only going to be available via the app store..... It'll also handle some backup tasks for you - Stuff that's changed will get uploaded and saved for 30 days.

    From what I've read so far (and it won't be available until the fall, so lots of speculation) it's a typical Apple release; "Let's release the minimum that folk will accept, but polish it to a high shine. Then we'll start adding other highly polished stuff every few months".

    My iPad 1 was OS3, but they are all OS4 now and mine is updated.

    this is per tech support why I couldn't download an app I wanted via 3G directly to the iPad like I have downloaded all other apps in past. His description was with the cloud computing you need to upgrade to OS4 to download directly or go through PC connection iTunes. After I upgraded to OS4 I was able to download the app no problem.

    all my reboots happen in or after a flight. I have 3G WiFi GPS and the flying app uses all 3. I think it locks up sometimes transitioning in and out of 3G and WiFi coverage. GPS is never supposed to go away. I do need to get the latest flying app though, that might be more stable.

    I'm surprised Rob!..... As an admin, don't you *always* start with "make sure everything is up to date and fully patched!"...... No sympathy otherwise ;)

    Seriously, I guess it's a good job it reboots quickly!.... Wouldn't want to be on final and lose my 'puter!
