99 355 Does This Connection Look Right?

Had the engine out completed a couple of months ago. Mostly it runs just fine and I noticed the connection in the attached picture. Took it back to the shop that did the work and was told that is the way it connects. Looks like the brass is a bit too shiny to have been this way for years and years. Monday, at the end of a car show, the CE light came on and I'm wondering if this could be the causal factor. I've also looked at the check points mentioned in other threads on O2 sensors and connections as well as the valve on the exhaust and to the eye of the inexperienced, they all look to be solid. I'm going to purchase an OBDII scanner and see what code(s) pop up and will post here as well. But to the point above and the pictured connection, it just does not look right to me. (I'm told this hose has something to do with vapor pressure for the gas tank?) Thanks for your comments/directions.
