    There is a 2003 Maserati GT 67,000 miles but has a blown engine, sticky buttons and some scratches. It's not in "good" condition by far. The asking price is 15,777 USD.. Is this a fair price considering the damage? What is a good measure of price for these cars, damaged or not? Where would one get a reconditioned 4.2L Maserati engine?

    Sorry for the list of questions but the car has blue exterior with light and dark tan interior. It caught my eye!

    Kind of what I was thinking. I offered then 2,500. In addition to the engine not running, there is no way to test the transmission or clutch ect. With shipping to my state, the final bill would be 4,000USD which I though would be OK incase everything else was shot.

    I've had a 2002 Coupe, 2005 Quattroporte, and currently own a 2006 GranSport.
    I know a little bit about them. If you are interested in the "modern Maserati" 2002 to present, you might want to check out Maserati Life website.

    I don't know about the blown engine, but with the sticky buttons you have three options:

    1) go to a guy called "stickynomore", who offers a service to clean your buttons and put stickers on them with the icons that look like the originals. It doesn't look good, the stickers look ugly but its cheap and the buttons will be clean.

    2) replace all the center console modules, with used ones, kinda expensive. If you can find used ones.

    3) replace all the center console modules, with new ones, very expensive solution.

    (2) and (3) are whole modules because you can't replace just the buttons, as spare parts you need to replace the whole modules.

    Thanks! I'm more certain my suggested price is fair. Especially since the buttons come in a module form. The dealer will probably just send it to auction and hope for 10-15k. In the off chance they don't, they have my offer.

    Good luck with the Maserati purchase. I think you'll find, if you research the stickynomore option, that the above post is not accurate.

    I've used SNM for some of my 355 interior bits and I thought it came out great.

    That price they are asking is crazy. They are out of reality at over $15k so unfortunately that means you have a better chance of getting struck by a meteor....twice, than working something out with them. Too bad, it needs someone to get her back on the road and about 3-4k is what it's worth.

    Yep, just want them to come down from 15,777 to something reasonable which is why I'm sticking to 2,500 for the time being. It's probably going to be sent to copart if they cannot come to an agreement with me and it's really too bad. it's a nice color combo and would be fantastic if it had a new engine.

    Say, is there any place selling reconditioned 4.2L engines? I doubt it but never hurts to ask.

    One of the best worldwide sources of Maserati (and Ferrari) used parts is www.eurospares.co.uk

    Although it's in England I believe they will ship to the USA (although shipping an engine could be a huge problem because of EPA certification issues, it should not be a problem to ship all the parts that you need to rebuild).

    In my opinion you should only undertake this kind of project if you have the skills and equipment to restore this car yourself. If you just give it to a Maserati dealer the bill - even only for the hours of work involved - will exceed the value of the entire car.

    Yep, you guys were correct! They must be in this car deep! Dealer said if it will not sell at the 15,777 he would invest the money to fix the engine and sell it at 24-28K... I said let me know if you change your mind... Seems like decient people; just made a bad acqusition..

    Agreed! I have restored Ford Mustangs (83 and 86) when I was younger; one was an engine swap. I have a lot to learn about these engines but I learn best on the job. Baptisim by fire, some would say! I have a garage and barn and will no doubt have to pick up a few tools like a engine hoist ect..

    I would like to pick up a rebuildable Maserati requiring a new engine with a decient looking exterior for less that 5,000 USD; if I mess it up entirely it's not the end of the world. I enjoy "tinkering" and being italian cars in general require vast amounts of "tinkering", I think this approach is best for me.

    Probably not though it would be essential in trouble shooting issues as I rebuild.. I seem to remember they are 15-20K, right?

    Unless you just want a project car to work on, this is a parts car not worth bringing back. There's a lot of great running cars you can get with no stories for about the same money as you can put into this.

    Leonardo can offer a single car version for 6,000EURO; a cheaper alternative to the 20K SD2-3 option... Still researching... Anyone have the home version (single car)? How user friendly is it?

    What do you mean single car? They actually match it with the ECU of your car?

    What happens if someone owns more than one Maserati but he is still a home owner and not a dealer?

    They told me it would be for a single model year (ie. 2003 CC) and not necessarily for the ECU of that specific car. Once you sell this car you can have your computer updated to work with your next Maserati. For ~9,000USD, it better be flexable.
