As expected, the Gallardo is the last three-pedal Lamborghini...

It wouldn't be so terrible, if only the eGear transmissions were a bit more reliable. They just don't seem very glitch-free. I always read on the Lambo chat sites about owners having so many odd and annoying malfunctions with this type of 'automated' transmission.
The true manual transmission just seems to be so trouble free. :)

"The only way Lamborghini can guarantee soothing smoothness in city driving . . . . is for every system in the car to be interconnected."

    Oh, really?

sadly, few people today are capable of driving a stickshift equipped supercar. But it would be nice to have the option :)

I'm the odd-man out on this one. I have always believed that a machine can shift better than I can, and I'd rather spend all that time listening to the radio anyways...

That being said, I don't think the various e-gear-like cars shift all that well, or at least they shift too consistently...the same every time. I'd like to be able to program my own e-gear shifting.

The Gallardo e-gear is great, especially for downshifting. A great "double-clutching" sound and action. But I don't always want that same sound and action! Sometimes I just want to down shift.

Upshifting on the Gallardo is very nice indeed, just jamming your foot into it and letting all the programs run.

Hey -- it could be worse...

Nonsense. There are plenty of drivers who can heel and toe with the best of 'em (really, is there anyone who couldn't learn to do that in a few hours?) who just happen to prefer paddles. Paddle are not just the hiding place for those that can't stick shift.

The Corvette is fitted with a beautiful 6 speed manual transmission. I recently added a new ZR1 to my collection and I cannot rave about it more. Tremendous power, fantastic brakes, excellent handling, practical because you actually have room for bags and such, comfortable, and only a fraction of what a new Ferrari or Lamborghini costs and I have 3 of those. I personally really like the looks in and out. If you have never driven a new ZR1 you will be blown away. 638HP, 604 lbs/ft of torque, and a 6 speed tranny! :)

So I guess that means Audi is dropping sticks.... :)

All good - The Lambos I would want and could afford as a garage mate to my 355 would all be available with sticks... and even if I could afford something brand-new I would opt for a 6-speed M or G car.

I've tried to like Corvettes, and their luggage space and window stickers are attractive, but they still feel cheap inside compared to anything from BMW, Merc or Porsche. Chevy needs to buy a BMW 3 series and figure out how to do a decent interior -- they just don't feel like $50K+ cars, while the Boxster does.

I'm interested to see what Porsche is planning with their "three pedal" PDK gearbox variant. I think the Germans are in the lead right now with gearbox technology. If they can combine driver involvement with the speed and precision of computer-controlled shifts, maybe that will be the last word in gearboxes for the final generations of internal combustion engines.

I haven't heard anything about this. Can you elaborate? 3 pedals but f1 fast shifting? This is finally starting to sound somewhat appealing.

People in Europe and Asia still learn to drive in manuals. Very few people actually do a automatic, mostly because it limits you to driving just automatics in the first place.

No - latest news is Audi is bringing the six-speed manual TT RS to the States.
