Walk on Michigan Ave for shopping.
Have lunch at Viagra Triangle, outside , i prefer eating at Carmines rather than Tavern, great to people and car watch.
Have lunch in Old Town, they have cute and nice restaurants with outdoors seating.(N Wells and North Ave).
Go to the Museum of Science and Industry, they have a great Human Body Expo.

    Have fun!

Go to Navy Pier, and check out the suburbs!

Edit: If you can visit the suburbs, you should.

I was thinking the same thing. :D What is there to see in the suburbs???

Are you a music fan? If so, what kind of music do you like? I can offer some great venues.

IDK. I was thinking if he had more time and got tired of the city life, but IDK.

If you like sports, go to a Cubs game.

Plan a nice afternoon walk, from Soldiers Field north to Oak street beach. You will walk by buckingham fountain, stroll thru Grant Park, see "the bean", walk by Navy Pier. Amazing beach, amazing view of city, lots of great people watching.

Just N of Soldiers field is the small penninsula that has the Adler Planetarium and the Shedd Aquarium. The Shedd is AWESOME! Your kid, no matter how old, will love it.

Couple of Chicago icons - get a great steak. Can do Mortons, Gene and Georgetti's, or another one.
Get yourself a slab of deep dish pizza! My personal fav is Lou Malnatti's.
Fun for the family is Ed Debevics (50's theme greasy burger joint with rude staff... thats their thing)
Greek Town - can't go wrong getting some saganaki or gyro! (Athena, Parthenon, etc are all very good)
You can eat on the 95th floor of the Hancock.... nice place, commanding view!

University of Chicago is beautiful. If you are going the Mus. of Science and Industry (south side)... the undergrad campus is just a few blocks away. Built by Rockefeller, it has many gothic buildings, including the "chapel". On the campus is the Oriental Institute. Great Mesopotamian and Egyptian collections. Don't be afraid of "the south side".... it used to be a bit of a scary place, but totally fine now (I worked at U of C for 3 years)

there is just a few thoughts!

Chicago is the friendliest big city on the planet!
    Welcome and enjoy!

Certainly agree on The Shedd - overall, best aquarium I've seen anywhere.

Oh, and don't ask for directions to "Soldiers Field" - people born & raised in the city will scoff at you (not just because they turned it into a monstrosity, but) because it is "Soldier Field." :)

On a nice day, the architectural tours given from a boat ride along the Chicago River are very interesting.

Looking at their schedule (Cubs), there don't actually seem to be any home games. :( If you do want to see a baseball game, there is always the Sox, but the Cubs are better. The Sox seem to be home between the days you want.

I would definitely do a boat tour, visit Shedd, and Navy Pier. Don't waste your money on the Sears Tower, the Hancock has a better view.

I will say this. In terms of a tourist experience, Wrigley is the place to go.
