So F1 season is now heading to Nurburgring. So I decided to make a research on memories from the F1 comings to the circuit. While searching I found this video with onboard images from the Ring back in 1967. Excellent quality.

    Laps: 15
    Lenght: 22835 m
    Weather: dry

    Podium:
    1 Denny Hulme
    2 Jack Brabham
    3 Chris Amon

    Hope you enjoy it: http://bit.ly/pUqsVe

Very cool! Thanks for posting. With no curbing, the signs, and the trees lining the roadcourse, it has the feel of a particular notorious Sunday drive in a 458 on youtube. ;)

The camera car appears to be a Formula Vee, so the F2 car can't be pushing very hard. Good footage, nonetheless.

+1 - even with today's safety improvements, slagging an open wheeler around a track at 120+ mph can be nerve wracking.

Chuck Norris has nothing on Jackie Stewart!

FV, FF, F-anything, it would be a riot to take a lap around that track!

Great stuff, makes me wish to have been born in another place and time(and with the surname Clark or Stewart). Thanks for sharing.
One time I didn't mind a musical soundtrack over the action.

Want to know how was the coverage of F1 in 1975? Here is a 44 minute video of higlights from that year's German Grand Prix, at Nurburgring.

That year Carlos Reutemann, in a Brahbham-Ford won ahead of Jacques Laffite and Austria's Niki Lauda.

Clay Regazzoni set the fastest lap of the race at 7:06.4 on lap 7

So the highlights are divided in five videos I hope you enjoy: http://bit.ly/qrFmXF

Did Lauda jump that start or what?! I guess they weren't so picky back then.

At the time that would only be a thin part of the iceberg. It wouldn't matter really that much. The races were more competitive in a driving way not in rules and strategies one.

    To funny!

The video is way cool and gives you a great perspective of what "real" racing was like! Huge cahones to drive those cars!

Surely someone has done the math. What would a modern F1 car lap time be around the nordschleife?

Heidfeld did it a few years ago in the Williams. If I remember correctly (and I probably don't) I think his best lap was 8:30ish because BMW had him slow for photos during each lap. Also, because the track is so bumpy in a few spots the wings/ride height needed to be modified
in addition to running a demo tire & not breaking 175 mph. His laps were obviously not indicative of what an F1 car is capable of but its still interesting to watch.

In the August edition of F1 Racing magazine there is an article about tackling the Nordschleife in the Toyota 2011 F1 simulator. The Toyota guys say that there simulator is always within 1 second of the real the world car's performance.

Thomas Bouche recorded the best lap time of 5.33 around the ring during the F1 racing magazine attempts.

    They would! :) I guess that's over a "normal" lap of ~100 seconds. But, even if we say it's within 10 seconds round the 'Ring this is very, very, impressive;

Wow!.... That's ~40 seconds quicker than anyone's ever been round there! [6:11] It's about 1:20 quicker than Niki's last pole in '75! [6:58]

Excuse my ignorance, but I assume Thomas Bouche is another Ring bunny? I wonder what Sabine (sp?) would do?......

    Cheers,
    Ian

In fact that is an amazing time...but don't think is realistic enough for the track

If you want, you can read the article yourself by downloading the magazine at the following links (the Mansell, Mosely and Alonso/Surtees articles are worth a read to).

Such comparisons are not valid as the current Nordschleife is not the same as the one that F1 cars raced on in the 70s. It was shortened by well over a mile (from 14.2 to 12.9) in 1981, when the new short course was constructed. As far as I know, Stefan Bellof still holds the lap record for the "new" 12.9 mile course at 6:11.13, set in 1983 in a Porsche 956.

In fact, it can't be compared. Many changes in the original track
