Has anyone installed the Escort Passport 9500 ci top of the line radar detector? It seems to be about 8 times the cost of a dash mounted unit ($3500 vs $400). Any comments from others who have installed this unit or others or looked into the best options would be appreciated. Thanks.

For that price it better ensure no tickets. Because it takes a while to rack up $3500 in fines, not insurance premiums, but fines. Of course this depends on the severity of the situation. I'll stick with my V1. I would love to hear from the people who bought this unit and as to why. You know what they say, you get what you pay for ;).

That must include the price of a very slick install as well. In which case, it's still on the high side, but in the range that I've seen for these cars.

We are currently trying to install a country joy craft mount for our Escort unit. They are off for holiday right now, but we are expecting shipment in 2 weeks.

I tried the smallest Adjustable mount and it did not fit (14-16mm) we have reordered a 23MM

This is a HUGE pain in the ass to put on, make sure you get some one with lots of dexterity and small hands to help you...

    http://www.countryjoycrafts.com

I will post pictures once finished if it works.

    Stay tuned.

On a side note, has anyone figured a nice way to hide a tolltag?

The install cost will be high, particularly if the shop hasn't done a 458 before as it is a pretty major job - front bar off etc. Also, does the quoted price include jammers?

I have it in my car and it's ok and slick but I prefer the k40 that I have in 2 of my other cars

It has saved me from tickets a few times already ! I have radars in all my cars. I used to be in traffic court every 6 months. Since I got the radars I've gotten no tickets!!

I have them in all my cars as well.I too was in traffic court every 6 months I did traffic school 3 times in one month I had tickets in 3 different counties. In the ferrari you better have something, Here where I live they get a hard on pulling one over and are always focused on it.I have in the past spent stupid money with radar systems.I have friends that have deflection jammer systems super serious money. Here is my $500 installed system never fails can be updated not to trigger on false reads with colored easy read lights installed with blendmount bracket BV12000 when this goes off Radar is present and it has saved me 10 tickets

Just want to chime in here. I used to use radar detectors 20 years ago, but they gave so many false alarms that I never knew which one was the real warning. Are radar detectors any use now that lasers can catch speeders instantaneously?

Here it is from Blendmount. As to rainforest .I had mine tuned for false reads and LED colored the lights.I don't get many false reads mine will read the CHP vehicle even when the laser is not in use .When the laser is in use.You get a 3-7 second delay and it will fully light up including Blue with warning sound as you see in the picture.Where I live sometimes the police are under the radar signs with a laser gun.5 years ago they would rarely use a radar on the freeway. Now they are all over the place with laser

Radar detectors are rapidly becoming obsolete. The cops are using laser more and more and making the switch from radar. Probably because so many drivers have a radar detector.
What you need is a Blinder laser jammer. They are the best. So far they have never failed to jam on our vehicles and I have a Blinder being fitted on my 458 next week.

FACT: It's the insurance companies that buy and supply many of the laser guns to cops.

KINGMONKEY your Valentine will not save you from a laser speeding ticket, if speeding. All it will do is warn you that in about 30 seconds you will be receiving a ticket. Cops get a speed reading from laser in 1/10th of a second. That's faster than your Valentine can react, let alone your foot on your brake pedal. Valentine is however one of the best radar detectors but that is as far as it goes. But remember a radar detector will only save you when it is picking up splatter from the gun being used at others. There is no splatter with laser. If the cop is using 'instant-on' radar you don't stand much of a chance either. Radar detector manufacturers should never have bothered including laser detection because it serves no purpose. Instead, make the detectors half the price by excluding the laser parts.

Many thanks to everyone for your helpful replies. I understand the Escort Passport 9500ci has a laser jammer they call a "shifter." Is this the best jammer out there? The Ferrari dealer doesn't offer a separate jammer, only the 9500ci.

All I can say is...loads of tickets before...none since.

I also have 2 V1s and it's my 3rd favorite behind the passport and K40.

The V1 makes me feel like it's 1986 again and has way too many false alarms for my taste.

The passport and K40s are both "stealth" installs. Although I have seen "stealth" V1 installs as well.

In my opinion, after spending so much for a 458, a nice, slick radar/laser system is money well spent.

I have a 9500 in my 458 - I told the installed that ZERO holes should be drilled and they made the full install with the front and back blinders with ZERO holes and they did.
A 9500ci is a MUST in a 458 as the car is too conspicuous already and gets to high speeds without noticing .... gives me peace of mind..
I have one in my Turbo also...

Use a dash mount radar detector such as a Bel or Valentine. That's usually ok for just radar. To jam laser (which is what you have to do) go with the Blinder M27 X-Treme from radarbusters.com
I did not go with the passport for one reason. That is, having the two slim laser jammer heads below the bumper is ok on the 458 and can look pretty discrete. But the passport has a remote radar head too, which has to go externally up front and on the 458. there is no way you can mount that extra part without the front of your 458 beginning to look a mess. It's a shame beacuse all the interior parts that Passport provides is compact and looks really neat. If only the radar detection could have been built into the laser heads the package would be a winner.

I have escaped the laser with my V1 on the freeway their laser is being waived around 5-6 lanes of traffic.I read them going the opposite direction as well.Even when the police set under the radar signs with laser. It's 2 lanes of traffic.Cheeky I do think you know what your talking about what system jammer do you recommend?

Take a look at Laser Interceptor. Most powerful jammer and comes with the smallest heads. The Blinder mentioned in another post is a good second choice. While the 9500ci is a great package, the laser jamming heads that are at least a generation old in terms of their internals. Its okay, but the other solutions have much better range.

If money wasn't a issue, I'd go with the 9500ci for radar but skip the ZR4 heads and add a Laser Interceptor.

My installer installed the front blinders of the 9500ci under the front collapsible air diffusers (hope I am stating the right name - you know what I mean) - a total discrete install - cannot even tell they are there... The Rear is over the rear plate but set to the right using double sided tape (as I did not allow any holes)...
    Saved me many times already....

I considered the laser jammer heads being fitted to the 458 flexible air intake fins. However, as they flex (and more so at higher speeds) the heads could end up not parallel to the ground. That can be a big problem as there is much emphasis on all laser jammer heads remaining absolutely parallel to the ground at all times. I am having mine fitted under the bumper above the air fins and leveled up as parallel. I am hoping they will also be less conspicuous up under there too.
