    Fellas:

I've been taking the summer off (work-wise) and am getting a little bored.

Any recommendations on where I should go to learn to shoot?

Also.. I know the basics are important, but it would be fun to be able to fire some cool stuff too (just just handguns).

    Any thoughts are appreciated!

The NRA headquarters is in Fairfax, Va and they have the best indoor shooting facility around. They offer many courses and have the best instructors around. Plus, you can shoot just about anything there at the range.
I use the range often and the people are great, checkout their webpage.

If you're looking to shoot in a low pressure environment I'd say check out http://www.horstguns.com/ up in Harford County.

It's the only place I'd feel comfortable taking a first time shooter because I won't have to go through a huge amount of hassle to get them range time.

Those all look like great places -- thanks -- but is there a place I can go and rent (?) interesting guns to shoot once I learn the basics?

How far north are you willing to drive? If you're willing to just cross into southern PA, then Targetmaster in West Chester might be just the place for you.

Lots of interesting stuff you can rent, nice range, too.

Don't know about the quality of their instructors. I got my lessons from a pro.

Do you want to shoot bullets (then handguns or rifles) or shot? There are some really great shotgun sports coaching in the area
