Miura, the original supercar

Curious, if I wanted to get myself into a Miura SV, what kind of price range are we talking?
from runs but needs everything (resto) to already resto'd.

Joe, do you know if Mr Wolf thought that the Miura was a great car but it was nothing like as good as the Countach or if he thought it was just very different from the Countach?

That's why I asked you to clarify Mr Wolf's opinion earlier as he does know how a car should handle.

 

It may have been because this is one of the cars, if not the car, that Mr Wolf had in mind when he made his statement comparing the Miura to the Countach, so relevant to the Miura thread?

 

i heard many similar opinions, i am not so surprised to hear this

i talked with a verde miura S owner last weeck
he also owns many other cool cars: like a diablo GT, an LP640, F40, ghibli...etc
side by side with his car he told to me
the miura is sooooo nice to look at but...honestly it does not handle so well...it is a dangerous car to drive fast

 

Let's face it ;
Miura must had became a vintage car overnight when It's outrageous replacement arrived
Sad But True

that doesn't mean Miuras aren't even more loved than Countaches today

I see. In comparing the Miura to the Countach it can be said that the Miura is (subjectively) the more beautiful car, especially in SV form, (though the Countach still remains the most visually stunning car ever made) but underneath their skins the Countach space frame chassis is a true work of art imho and here it's got the Miura beat. In its defence the Miura chassis is an earlier and understandably more primitive design, although sensational when introduced.

In contradiction to what has been said earlier in comparing the two cars, I have also read that the SV was a better car than the early Countach.

Subjectively - this is the most important word here. Perhaps you can't believe it, but there are people who say that the Countach LP400 is the more beautiful car. Others say that the S1 ist the most beautiful car. So what? Your preferred choice seems to be the SV, this is ok, but it does not justify to say that only the chassis of the Countach "has got the Miura beat". A Miura is a Miura, and a Countach is something really different.

 

imo Wolf was correct. I owned a Miura S in 2000 which I bought for $55K. The beauty was breathtaking, but a month or so later someone offered me $65K for it. I was disappointed in the way it handled compared to a LP400 and a QV. (sidenote: LP400 with fatter tires, being so light, impresses too) The latter were much better driving cars in all respects....brakes, handling, steering, acceleration, lack of chassis flex, etc. I guess that is technology for ya. In spite of the beauty of the Miura, I thought it wise to take the profit, primarily because I was disappointed in the driving dynamics compared to Countachs.

But obviously, selling the car was a stupid move, because I just missed the crazy Miura appreciation curve.

 

I didn't say that "only" the chassis of the Countach "has got the Miura beat". I said that the Miura is (subjectively) the more beautiful car and you're right, 'subjectively' is the most important word but I also said that the Countach remains the most visually stunning car ever made too so as far as looks go what I said gives them equal credit. I agree that there are people who would say that the Countach is the more beautiful car. And yes, "A Miura is a Miura and a Countach is something really different" and isn't it great that they are so different and yet both fantastic.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing but I would not have said selling the car was a stupid move as car market prices can just as easily fall as well as rise. You took a very nice $10,000 profit too and if you bought a Countach with the money at least you got what you think is the better car dynamically and that could have been the one to sky rocket in price and still it may.
