Hi guys, Just got back from our dealer visit to the factory. This was for the preview of the new 458 spider which will be revealled on the net in august and it is a hard top convertible and takes only 14 secs to do it's thing. We were searched for cameras and even our lenses were covered so no pics from my end, unless there is someone else who managed to snap some, Please post!
What does the top look like? Is the rear window vertical, with flying buttresses? Need to know - want to make a sketch to predict the final design
Sounds very familiar to the elusive "niagara falls" area girlfriend that no one has ever seen or met!
You're the third person claiming these claims (hardtop, 14 seconds, Gallardo-style engine vents) so I guess you are right. Did it look sweet?
This could be VERY cool. Let us not forget how beautiful this was and is. (it was at this point I had a nice picture of a F355 Spider engine lid I was going to post. Than I was shown that I am at my limit of images. I have edited them before but can't figure out how to do it again. Anyone?)
Thetip operates diff to the Cali, also the rear window goes up and down, it's so diff to what ferrari has ever done, although closes to a superamerica
I am actually hearing from multiple sources that the spyder was shown in Italy in the last week or so. Which is interesting because I also heard that they were building spyders in June and part of July. One thing that everyone is saying is that the top is very "trick". It sounds like it will not be long now, before we see a pic So many questions......so few answers. So you are saying that the roof line is different than the coupe. Discounting the breaks in the roof for the folding top, if a 458 spyder drove by me at 30 miles and hour with the top up, could I easily tell that it was a 458 spyder and not a 458 coupe? I am sure we all could tell with the top down, but it is the top up that really matters to die hard coupe or targa guys.....like me
I'm not sure how I really feel about the engine being hidden away like on Lambos but I'm sure Ferrari have done it right.
Can anyone who has seen this tell us if it follows the leaked hardtop patent design? Im dying to know, thanks!
Being told by my dealer who also been to the factory. He said the new car is looking really stunning when she was showed up on stage. The incoming 458 Spyder will get folding hardtop as on SA...woww! Hope its price is right Ferrari confirms that 458 Spyder will have more sporty looks than 458 Italia especially from the rear end. BTW, the power output will remain the same at 562hp w just only 50kg gaining. Credit to new patented hi-tech materials and intelligent folding hardtop mechanic from Maranello. Which giving 458 Spyder's performance figure is still similar as on 458 Italia. Otherwise, we cannot see engine bay thru transparency cover anymore (in order to give new design rear compartment behind seats) and also the sound will be a little tuned down to meet passengers' demand when driving top-down. Btw, many enthusiasts believe to see the popularity of Spyder exceeding over coupe' version if the price different is around 15-20%.
This is making me feel better and better about the coupe. Sounds like the Spyder is not true to the 458 body lines. Sounds like there have been some compromises made that will keep me from switching to the Spyder. And best of all it saved me enough money that I can get that Vincent Black Shadow that I have had my eye on and just keep driving the 458 coupe
If that's the price, it's scary. 20% of the coupe would be a 50 grand increase in the MSRP. I have a feeling that's not right. Traditionally, it's been about 10%. Given the California as a retractable hard top and costs less than the 458 coupe, I think it's extreme.
C'mon Ferrari don't do that! That's one of the great things about Spiders, you can hear the exhaust note better. I haven't seen any threads about the 458 being to loud... but I have seen quite a few about it being too quiet. I'm hoping this bit of info is false, or maybe Ferrari will come to there senses before releasing the final product.
