    Read today that a 288 GTO was the overall winner at a recent show and shine held here, I havent seen this car myself but will see if I can acquire some pictures of it. Still trying to work out exactly how many are in SA, there seems to be fairly reliable info that 3 were sold here in 1984-5. Of the 3 I have seen one, there was then a story of another which had to undergo a total restoration after not being driven for nearly 20 years, how true this I dont know. Will ask around down here and find out what I can.

    Just south of Waco right now but will be moving back to Houston next weekend BUUUTTTT I'm still close hint hint wink wink lol!! Back when I saw my first I was cruising down Hwy6 in my '72 VW Bug and heard a distinctive engine note just behind me and I almost wrecked when it drove beside me, I had to pull over and collect myself for a few minutes.

    Yep. Joe can chime in here but I think the last count of 288's in the USA is around 21. Worldwide there's almost 5X more Daytonas.

    The Daytona was much more prolifically produced and indeed this affects values relative to the 288 GTO. Im surprised GTOs dont bring 3X as much as standard Daytona Coupes do, and I say this as I get the feeling that exclusivity matters more to collectors these days. The GTO ushered in a new era of performance Ferrari, and will always be a benchmark car, being the First of the Supercar Series as sanctioned during the tenure of Enzo Ferrari himself..
