Heavier and the same power? I though this car was supposed to be faster?
Since when is the spider version faster than the coupe? Never. If fast is the priority stick w/the coupe; the spider is for open air driving/sound.
the rumor was that it would be faster. and why would a spider be faster now? new materials and a new design, all spurred on by new competition.
I talked to a dealer yesterday also, that said he was at the preview, and confirmed all of the details above. said it was a beautiful car.
Heard photos of the car will be available late August for customers to view. I am curious how the roof folds into the rear of the seats. Don't like the idea of no glass panel to view the engine. Well, the spyder has always been a hit
From what I was told, the roof folds into 2 pieces and slides over the engine, not behind the seats. Apparently, they were able to pull it off without compromising leg room.
The real one will look different I'm sure but here's a rendering that's floating around. Looks pretty good. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Every rendering we've seen to date has been pure speculation, so who knows what the real thing looks like... Having said that, pretty much every rendering has looked great (at least to me!), when they usually look pretty poor, so it's clear that the 458 lends itself very nicely to losing it's head. We should therefore fully expect Ferrari to produce an absolutely stunning piece of design. Can't wait to see it!
If the rendering and everyone that has seen the car is accurate, I just dont know why ferrari would cover that wonderful engine up. Ferrari started this trend with the 360 and the 430. Now other companies including lamborghini all due the same thing because its so hot to see the engine sitting behind you in plain sight. Hell even chevy made a glass see thru for the new corvette and it a front engine car! It just seems like it would be so simple to make the engine cover clear. Maybe there will be an aftermarket company that will design one like they did for the lamborghini gallardos when they first came out. What do you guys think?
Not sure that it matters how it looks when the top is down.......in other words....open air is open air, every convertible looks pretty much like a convertible with the top off and I might add if you like the top off then by definition it looks good or maybe even great in open air mode. It may just be me, but what makes or breaks a convertible hard top or soft top for me is what it looks like with the top up. No matter what, they live some part of their life, some climes more than others, with the top up so it is kind of a significant part of the whole package that can make or break the cars looks and to some degree its useability IMHO. So far I have not been able to find any description of what it looks like with the top up.........and again at least for me and I know I may be alone on this, that is what will make or break the looks of the car for me and probably all the other coupe and targa top fans
I don't think it's accurate. My guess is that it works something like the California AND the Superamerica. The rear deck opens above the engine. The roof splits in half and folds ontop of itself. The entire roof rotates 180 degrees and fits on top of the engine The rear deck closes. If that's the way it works, then the roof covers the engine anyway. There's no way to see the engine. So --- hey--- people just have to pop the hood like in the good ol' days!
I do think this will be, for the most part, what it looks like. It said this rendering was done from detailed descriptions from the people that saw the car last week at Maranello.
My dealer who was at the 2 day intro in Maranello last week says it has a two piece folding top that goes both behind and partially under the seat (if I remember correctly). He also said that it looks great top down but that some people might not like it top up - although he did. He also thought it would kill sales of the coupe version!!
Got this from another forum and its not my rendering but this looks sleek and very clean Image Unavailable, Please Login
While that Team Speed rendering looks great, I'm going to miss not being able to see the engine. Will they hurry up and release it already, I'm dying over here.
+458 The renderings looks so cool from the side. Haven't seen a profile like this since the NSX: Image Unavailable, Please Login
